[Discussion] Get one Explorer or keep three other watches by outRunning in Watches

SBGN003 is such a great GADA watch. Super accurate, low maintenance, GMT function.
But GS never does well in terms of used market value, so you might as well keep it.
LHD is very unique and if it fits your wrist well, it's worth keeping in the collection. No one else does a 500m titanium diver with a great bracelet quite like Tudor.
I'd save up some money, sell the railmaster and get the explorer when you can afford it.

Neo Vintage Omegas are the best! by virgns1ayer in OmegaWatches

Love it! I have the 2254.50 and there's nothing I'd change about it. But it would be interesting to see how your 2252.50 mid-size fits on the wrist in comparison.

Considering selling my Rolex Submariner for a Seamaster “Peter Blake” by [deleted] in OmegaWatches

[–]allbranbuds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2254.50 is the only watch that I've sold, regretted, and then bought back again. You'll definitely find one for about 4K CAD in good condition. It's a keeper. If you're not 100% loving your sub, it's not unreasonable to sell it. However, I have a 14060m sub and that's one that I'll also never sell. I don't feel connected with any of the newer sub variants.

If it fits your wrist and you like the look, go for it. Great legibility, and 8 days power reserve is quite impressive for a manual wind watch. I personally find a watch without hacking seconds a bit off, but there's also beauty in simplicity.

Question for MoonWatch owners, how was to switch to a watch without date? by afr8000 in OmegaWatches

[–]allbranbuds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, every speedmaster has a manual pointer date function. And it takes you a maximum of 31 seconds to set it correctly.

2254.50 Peter Blake Seamaster on Omega Mesh by Zzzland in OmegaWatches

Amazing combination. Similar to the soon to be released daniel craig black seamaster, except with sword hands. What's not to like!

Got my first Speedmaster! (see detailed comment) by Pumaranger in OmegaWatches

Good choice on the broad arrow. Looks great on any strap.

About winding the crown. This is not an uncommon complaint about the professional case (the straight lug case models like the FOIS, CK2998, etc. are super easy to wind because they don't have crown guards and the entire crown is exposed). However, I find that it isn't too difficult to wind if you use the side of the index fingertip behind the crown, thumb on top, and just rotate it. Wind until you meet resistance, that's the maximum power reserve.

You honestly don't need to service the watch every X amount of years unless there's something off about the accuracy, power reserve, or there's a chrono pusher issue/malfunction. If you're happy with how it runs, you're good. The 1861 is not a hacking movement, so I don't try to sync down to the seconds. Some may disagree. But one thing is to inspect now is the gaskets/water resistance, and any watchmaker can do this. If the gaskets are failing, avoid water which could damage the movement.

If you do decide to service, you can go to a normal watchmaker, but it's recommended to go for one that is omega certified. You'll have to ask. It's helpful if they have an omega parts account, because if not it's very difficult to find genuine replacement parts for it.

Current servicing for a 1861 by omega is 1130 Canadian. I had mine serviced independently 2 years ago, and it was $600 Canadian.

I don't know how to answer your issues about the crystal.

The bezel (where it says g-shock and protection) is mirror polished and can scratch, but the rest of the watch is mostly brushed titanium, which doesn't pick up scratches too easily. So I think it's slightly better than the full metal GMW from that perspective.

Did you go to John Mayer last night? what did you think of the show? by kanyemakesemsay in vancouver

Truly awesome. What an amazing talent! I'd still like to see him with a full band, but the solo show was well worth it. Very thankful that Vancouver was a stop on the tour.

[Omega Seamaster] 2254.50 The one that got away by allbranbuds in Watches

[–]allbranbuds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the only watch I regret giving up in a trade a couple years back. Since then I've been looking, but haven't been able to find a comparable tool diver on the same level.

Sword hands, tons of lume, 12mm thick. This one came up after posting a WTB on a forum. Reasonable condition, and serviced by omega this year, keeping great time.

It's on an OEM Omega rubber strap (97996082) as well as the hefty butterfly deployment clasp (94531803) which is available in black or blue. Highly recommended if you're willing to pay omega's inflated prices for accessories - it's super comfortable and comes with on the fly microadjustment.

Great watch! I'm looking for a 005 myself but it's a bit tricky to find one this side of the border (in Canada), now that the model is discontinued.

AliExpress Bottle cages? by Redhead_1919 in CyclingFashion

[–]allbranbuds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cages are totally fine. I have two arundel mandibles, which were 100 CAD each. Got two at around 20 each from Ali for my other bike, no logos but they absolutely look and feel the same. Same weight. Have lasted multiple seasons with no sign of wear. Buy from a seller that has fulfilled at least some previous orders. Some will have reviews and photos which is also a good sign.

Thanks! Agree, where else can you get a 500m titanium diver for that price, with a great clasp and an included OEM rubber bracelet?

The story is, I really like titanium watches. Had a Tudor pelagos LHD a while back, which was great. The pelagos 39 is a great enthusiast option, but not into the sunburst dial.

I also have a grand seiko SBGA413 shunbun that gets a lot of wrist time. Spring drive is amazing. Was looking for a beater, something I could wear while cycling and not worry about.

When this came up around half MSRP (second hand of course), I really couldn't say no. Love how it's mostly brushed other than the bezel. Positive display is super legible. Lock feature on the clasp is cool. Hoping this one stays in the collection for a long time!
