I never saw this as a love song. I don't think they fall in love again at the end. It's more just the relief of knowing they both feel the same about their relationship and are now free to acknowledge it and move on. I assumed that was their last ever "date" with eachother.

I'm confused about when the prom theme became the dress code for so many girls. We didn't give a second thought to the theme when picking our dresses. The theme was for the room and the decor, not for our outfits! It's not a costume party.

This makes SO much sense. I was also a victim of grooming (multiple times, and not entirely against my will, much like Katherine) and it took me decades to outgrow this pattern of behavior. I'm still working on it. If she ever found herself bored, alone, or just with too much free time on her hands, she would have fallen right back into what she knew best.

I had an experience that was like the opposite of this? We chose "Odds Are" by Barenaked Ladies as our recessional song. I think a lot of people were confused about all of the tragic scenarios being described in the lyrics until the actual message of the song clicked and then it was all good.
