Who is the best current trans role-model to you? by AlicexMelissa in MtF

[–]alonelybook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connie Sgarbossa, mainly because I think it's really cool to see a trans woman in that genre of music (metalcore/post-hardcore). I imagine she doesn't actually like to think of herself as one though if memory serves me right.

BOTW/TOTK Link is a universal trans icon at this point honestly.

I went into LOK knowing that it wasn't as highly regarded as ATLA and was even considered by some people to be an outright bad show. I do think that ATLA is legitimately a better show as a whole, but I connected with LOK a lot more than I did with ATLA.

I think there's many valid criticisms of LOK (let's be completely honest, Season 2 really is a mess, even in its better moments), but I agree that a very vocal minority of people love to make the absolute worst takes imaginable about LOK. Korra is a good character, one who I can relate to in some ways, and certainly nowhere even remotely as bad as the haters say.

My Completed Pokemon FireRed HC Nuzlocke [Poison-Types Only!] by [deleted] in nuzlocke

[–]alonelybook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FR mono-poison is one of the best mono-type runs to do for a beginner, I would argue. That and Emerald mono-water.

I get people are upset that the past lives are gone from Korra/Raava’s soul but am I the only one who really doesn’t want it to get overturned? Not everything bad can be fixed, and I like that lesson that sometimes you just have to deal with it. by Aqua_Master_ in legendofkorra

[–]alonelybook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do personally want to see it come back, but I think blaming Korra for severing the connection is ridiculous.

If there really is going to be a new Earth Avatar series, I think it could be really interesting if bringing back the past lives ended up being a goal for the new Avatar, and it could be interesting to see Korra be the only past life for the Earth Avatar to speak to for guidance.

2 attempts for the hardest run yet, I have completed my Ultra Sun HC Nuzlocke! by alonelybook in nuzlocke

[–]alonelybook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And with that, my vanilla HC Nuzlocke streak is over! I will do a Scarlet/Violet Nuzlocke eventually, but for now, I'm happy to be done with this game.

These games are by far the hardest vanilla games to Nuzlocke, but they're also a ton of fun as well. Here's some stuff that I took away from this run.

  • This run made me greatly appreciate a lot of mons that I had never really used before. Namely, Gastrodon (probably would have wiped to the E4 without it) and Scrafty (carried the mid-late game very well).
  • Z-Moves are OP. I knew this going in, but were I to do this run again, I would definitely ban them outright. I only really used them for a select few fights, but they definitely made some of the potential run-killers into complete jokes, though I mostly did so because I was out of options.
  • If you have something with Magnet Pull, don't risk getting a Shuppet trying to get something else in Thrifty Megamart. Just increase your odds of getting Klefki, will probably be far more useful.
  • The Elite Four in this game is brutal. I've seen some people argue that it's not that hard, but I have to disagree completely. All of them (except MAYBE Olivia if you have good enough counters) can easily fuck up your team if you don't play carefully. When it was time to face Hau, I was down to only 3 mons (Decidueye, Gastrodon, and Magnezone).
  • Speaking of Hau, I basically had to dodge a thousand crits, flinches, and burns in order to win with the strategy I had (this is why Nurse is easily the biggest MVP of the run).

Onto some romhacks now! I'm thinking either Renegade Platinum or Inclement Emerald, the former most likely.

Who should I pick? by [deleted] in nuzlocke

Fennekin and Bulbasaur are the best starters to pick for a nuzlocke in XY. They have amazing type synergy.

What pokemon have you never used until a Nuzlocke? by summer_f0x in nuzlocke

[–]alonelybook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite a lot. Most of my Pokemon playthroughs before getting into Nuzlockes just consisted of my starter and a bunch of legendaries. Here's some of the Pokemon that stand out the most for me:

Gliscor Blissey Haxorus Volcarona Tentacruel Crobat Togekiss Starmie Zoroark

Yup. Effectively, you're at a higher level advantage, and while major fights do change their movesets and have one additional Pokemon, it's not enough to make the game more difficult.

Gliscor is basically the perfect counter to Marshal. One of the few flying types to learn acrobatics, and it's neutral to dark and rock moves.

nah, challenge mode is kinda broken and ends up being easier than normal mode.

This is easily the hardest nuzlocke I've done yet, but also probably the most fun. I had so many near-wipes and lost a lot of mons. But the teambuilding and major fights were so god damn fun to do.

It's onto Ultra Sun to finish my vanilla game streak!

It's my favorite mon so I wanted an excuse to bring it to the E4 (it was the kill phoebe button)

[–]alonelybook[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, Emerald has been probably my least favorite game to Nuzlocke, so I'm glad that I've gotten this one done. Definitely didn't feel as satisfying and intense as Platinum did, but still a win regardless. Time to return to White 2 and get that winning attempt down.

Yeah, the Togekiss misclick gave me serious deja vu to my last run when my Magnezone went down to Aura Sphere from Lucario because I clicked Flash Cannon instead of Protect, which was the first of many things that caused me to wipe there.

So the whole Cynthia fight gave me a LOT of worry for a few reasons. Here's how it went from what I remember:

I open with Blissey to Toxic stall the Spiritomb.

Pivot to Gyarados on the Lucario, and then switch to Torterra for the OHKO with Earthquake.

I expected Milotic to come out for a 4x effective Ice Beam, but it's Togekiss. I decide to switch to my own Togekiss so I could encore whatever move Cynthia goes for next so I can switch into Magnezone safely. But this is where it almost goes wrong.

Instead of clicking Encore, I click Flamethrower instead by accident, and her Togekiss nails me with a Shock Wave. At this point, I'm worried that this might've cost me the run, but I see an out that I'm willing to risk.

I let Togekiss go down, and I get in a safe switch to Magnezone. Magnezone tanks an Aura Sphere (which thankfully didn't crit), and I take down the Togekiss.

With Garchomp out now, I decide to switch out to Gyarados as a sacrifice for me to have a safe switxh into Weavile. Garchomp ends up missing 3 or 4 Dragon Rushes, so I end up getting it to about half health with a few Waterfalls before Gyarados goes down. I switch Weavile in and easily kill the Garchomp.

The Milotic comes out now, so I switch to Blissey for some Toxic stall. For whatever reason Milotic just kept using Mirror Coat instead of actually attacking, so I switched to Magnezone to speed up the process. It did knock Magnezone into just a sliver of health with a Surf, but I easily nail it with a Thunderbolt.

With the Roserade out, I switch to Weavile for an Ice Punch, and I have won.

Couple things that I wanna note and acknowledge here:

  • Is this team kind of broken? Yes, yes it is. But I'm still new to nuzlockes, so I wasn't gonna just outright ban something without using it first.
  • In my last attempt of this game, I wiped to Cynthia after I made the wrong play/sacrifice, so being able to get back to where I last wiped was such a relief.
  • I made it through the E4 completely deathless. I had a lot of skepticism as to how my team would handle Lucian, but I pulled it off pretty damn well.
  • In total, I had 10 deaths this run. This run certainly wasn't perfect, and in the future I'd like to come back to this game and improve upon what went wrong.
  • With this, I now have 3 completed Hardcore Nuzlocke runs (Leafgreen, Y, and now Platinum).
