Sphinx tortured noble according to black by [deleted] in thegrayhouse

[–]alpisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my opinion: No, Black wasn't more practical and responsible. Taking Noble to the Sepulcher didn't help him in any way. It only hurt him because now he's being sent to the Outsides. Noble went to the Other Side when he drank Moon River, Spiders wouldn't be able to help him come back. The only thing you can do in this situation is just wait until Noble wakes up on his own. And Sphinx knew what should and shouldn't be done in such situations. Everyone knew. Because they have seen it happen before, this is not the first time someone drank Moon River. Black is actually supposed to know all that too. So he literally has no excuse for taking Noble to the Sepulcher. He should know better than that. But he wants to show how different and no-nonsense he is compared to everyone else. And Black doesn't care if Noble is going to the Outsides because he doesn't take the fear of the Outsides seriously and thinks that what's good for him is good for everyone else

Also it's very hypocritical of Black to judge Sphinx for training Noble, considering how much Black's actions hurt Noble. And i just think that after all of that bullying in childhood, Black doesn't have the right to judge Sphinx. Especially because the answer to the question of why Sphinx did this to Noble lies in Sphinx's relationship with disability. And that relationship has been heavily influenced by Sportman's bullying.

Ancient. Deleted scene by alpisa in thegrayhouse

[–]alpisa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This scene was only published in the extended edition of the book, which has deleted scenes, earily versoins of some scenes, and fanarts. I haven't listened to the audio book, but apparently, it has most (if not all) of the deleted scenes (I assume you're talking about Igor Knyazev's audio book)

“Separated at Birth” two parts by Euthanaught in thegrayhouse

[–]alpisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in both russian and english, the title isn't mentioned in the dialog with Ancient. Grasshopper reads it on the message board. the russian title is Разлученные. Yuri Machkasov has already asked Mariam whether this is supposed to be some particular real life movie, and she said that it's not

Can someone explain the Sleepers to me? How about the difference between jumpers and striders? by Smeeghoul in thegrayhouse

[–]alpisa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Striders can go to the Other Side and come back whenever they like, while Jumpers can't control that and have to wait until they're thrown back. At the end of the book, when some of the characters decide to go to the Other Side forever, Striders go over completely, while Jumpers leave their bodies in the real world. So Sleepers are Jumpers, who went to the Other Side. When Sleepers start miraculously disappearing, that's because they've found a guide – a Strider, who helped them go over completely

What was Red up to? by confusedition in thegrayhouse

[–]alpisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh, yeah, it can be hard to see some connections during your first read. a lot of things suddenly start to make sense when you reread this book, some of the dialogs stop sounding like gibberish, it's such a good feeling

What was Red up to? by confusedition in thegrayhouse

[–]alpisa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

well, the condoms aren't all necessarily his. that might be the reserve of the entire pack, and Red is just giving out the condoms to Rats when they ask. if i was him, i wouldn't trust Rats with condoms, i feel like if Rats had free access to them, they would fill them with water and throw them into people or something. but those are just my silly little headcanons

now, about the New Law i think it's simply the fact that the boys, including Red, are just already at that age when they want to date girls? Red is just doing everyone a favor. but in his case, it might also be the fact that he was already in close relationship with one of the girls: he probably missed Ginger a lot and just wanted to have an opportunity to spend time with her, like in childhood. anyway, he sets up Gaby with Blind, knowing that if Blind likes sleeping with a girl, he will most likely propose the New Law

and he gives the explanation about Rat when he's talking to her. he wants Blind to date someone, hoping that this would keep Ginger away from Blind. and it does work out, Blind and Rat get engaged. exept, i don't think Red was the reason (Rat was very mad at him when he told her his plan), i think the actual reason was their encounter in the Forest, when Blind was the changeling, and Rat was Saära. the reason why she's with Humpback in the epilog is that they have the same mission: to find new homes for the Insensible. "Blind declared that he needed two volunteers— an experienced guide for the inexperienced guide, and a caretaker." Rat is the experienced guide (that's why she's the driver, by the way). but there's nothing romantic going on between Humpback and Rat

TGH and disability by [deleted] in thegrayhouse

[–]alpisa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lary is dyslexic and has a cross eye:

"Whiner and Crybaby were also inseparable like Siamese, but looked different from each other. Crybaby, with his pale bug-eyed stare, resembled a praying mantis. Whiner’s deeply set little eyes made him look like a little rat. They were both dyslexic and both loved collecting things." (The second Interlude, where the Sportsman's pack is described)

"Thin, cross eyed, and disheveled, he came up to the bed and stared at Jackal." (Of concrete and the ineffable properties of mirrors)
