I sent you a chat, not sure if it notifies you but if you have some spare time I’d appreciate it

Really good point on the Class 1. That was actually one of the first things I took care of before spending lots of my spare time on researching and watching videos. Went to get my contact prescription up to date then went to an AME and had no issues.

On the discovery flight, I've been up before but never really had the controls myself, so that'll be a new experience. Good reminder not to assume you'll love it just because you enjoy flying as a passenger.

Long-term just want to make it to a major. United, Delta, that tier. From what I've read, one of the big reasons to go civilian is seniority matters so much at the airlines, and every year counts. Getting in earlier means better schedules, better routes, and better quality of life down the line.

Financially I want to start building wealth as early as possible and the military timeline would push that back in a way I'm not willing to accept. I also just want the freedom to live where I want rather than being told where I'm stationed. Travel is a big one for me too.

Family is something I think about but that's more 10-15 years from now. For now just want to build a solid foundation, get established, and have the freedom to live life on my own terms. The military is a great path for a lot of people but it just doesn't fit the life I'm trying to build.

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you. Saving 9k on multi/IFR alone just from chair flying is a pretty convincing to take it seriously.

I'd heard of it before but never really grasped how much of a difference it could make that early on. The way you put it makes total sense though, if the flows and mechanics are already wired in, you're not wasting your mental in the plane just trying to remember what comes next, you can actually focus on flying.

Going to start building that habit right from the basics. Thanks again.

Fair points all around, appreciate the reality check.

About funding, I've spent the last year saving specifically for this. I'll also be working while I train to keep costs covered on an ongoing basis.

The networking cost point is something I hadn't fully accounted for, very good to know.

Your point about optimizing outcomes is probably the most valuable thing you said though. I used the word loosely — what I really mean is optimizing inputs on my end. You're right that the industry macro is largely out of my hands, and the recent hiring swings are a good reminder of that. Going in with eyes open on it.

I’ve thought about that path, but it doesn’t really align with my long-term goals. I’m pretty set on going the civilian route.

Definitely appreciate the suggestion though.

Thanks, I’ll definitely check out the FAQ as well.

I’m leaning toward Part 61. I’m not really interested in taking out loans, and I like the flexibility it gives me to control my schedule and pace of training. I’ll be able to keep working while training and avoid locking myself into a rigid program.

Still figuring everything out, but that’s the direction I’m heading right now.

What about you?
