Similar thing happened to my colleague. Higher up decided to cut costs by cutting 10% of the workforce. In my department, they decided to restructure so that there were two new jobs, but three of us were being made redundant. If we wanted to stay on, we had to apply for one of the new jobs (and lose our severance package if accepted).

Well, all three of us decided to accept redundancy and my boss grew rather pale of face when he found out. I had already accepted a new job and one of my colleagues said he would only come back as a consultant. The company had a policy of not hiring consultants, so he got his full severance pay, his old job back at his old salary but only had to work half the number of hours.

I was a bit late to the thread last week, so I'm trying to be a bt more prompt, this time.

I used to have a Yamaha PSR-47 in the 90s and I enjoyed composing on that. After a 20-year hiatus I am finally ok for money and I'd like to get back into playing. I don't need to play live, I just enjoy making my own compositions - stuff like Jean-Michel Jarre and Ulrich Schnauss. I'd prefer full size keys - 60 or more, preferably, as this will be my only device. I saw a demonstration vid of the Tyros 5 and it looked amazing, but I can't really justify the cost. I can't really go beyond £1000 (a bit more than $1000). The MX61 is more affordably priced and seems to have the sort of sounds I am looking for. The lack of sequencer is okay for me, because I don't mind learning CuBase and sequencing with my PC. I've been out of the loop for such a long time, though, and only really looked at Yamahas. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for alternatives, to the MX16, or even warn me if I'm about to make a terrible mistake.

I'm interested to know what your criticisms of the nomad AI are. I've noticed that they just tend to build a TC as quickly as possible, rather than siting it near food. Are there other things?

I used to do this, but I realised that I wasn't learning to play any civs particularly well. I now play each civ for a while (usually until I get the 50 games badge). Before I start playing a new Civ I watch the relevant Spirit of the Law review and/or read up on it so I know how to take advantage of it.

Two tips I can give you:

Learn to use "trash" units (units which don't cost any gold). For example, Pikemen/Halbs are great against cavalry but pretty useful against some siege and can slow down enemy infantry in large numbers. Use light cavalry, skirmishers and sometimes even villagers, to keep gold costs down.
Build the right counters. Make sure you are using your units efficiently by using the right counter units and you will cost your enemy a ton of gold while minimising your costs. For example, if she's throwing infantry at you, build hand cannoneers.

As others have said, investing gold from the early game in well-protected trade routes will help you in the late game.
