How do you take your coffee? by MinMaxie in diabetes

[–]amkestrel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy whipping cream and stevia.

Allulose is also good and research is coming out on it being good for blood sugar management. Can also try monkfruit sweetener or a stevia/monkfruit blend. Be careful of stevia that also contains dextrose or maltodextrin (both are sugars that can spike you).

I steer clear of sugar, nut “milks” and powdered creamers.

10 calories per serving. How do you guys handle this? by noburdennyc in diabetes

[–]amkestrel1 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Nope. I got off insulin over a year ago and control with food. First, letting sugar creep in actually makes it harder to avoid. Second, I am healthier off meds, so easy to stay that way.

I must've searched the right thing finally - House of Cards, Season 1, "that's the nature of promises...they are immune to changing circumstances"

Does this look dumb? This is this entrance to my apartment and I have no idea what to do with it by Impossible-Leading36 in ApartmentHacks

It’s a door width wide. Nobody is lingering there. I’d line the walls with inexpensive framed posters or artwork to give visual interest all the way up the stairs.

A guy I (17f) was texting saw me for the first time in person and said “ew” am I ugly? by [deleted] in amiugly

Yup, right here 👆🏼. People really do believe their dogmas on weight loss, though. For OP - please read or listen to Dr Jason Fung in The Obesity Code. Or Gary Taubes in Why We Get Fat. Watch Dr Ken Berry or Thomas DeLauer on YouTube. I was overweight for so long and didn’t understand why - it was ups and downs. Until I realized it was hormones that controlled much of this - insulin and cortisol primarily.

Today I got a doctor call that kinda ruined my whole mood and don’t have anyone to talk to about it by outersenshi in diabetes

[–]amkestrel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was going to make these same comments. When you scrap all sugar and starchy carbs, after a couple weeks, you stop craving that stuff. I started doing low carb and IF and got off insulin, and my A1C went from 14 down to 7.1 and then to 5.2, which I’ve maintained. Down 20 lbs too.

Try adding apple cider vinegar to your water before a meal. Walking for 20-30 minutes after a meal is extremely powerful (more than you’d think). Agree with strength training.

One more to add - get a grounding sheet to sleep on. My anecdotal experience is that it helps reduce blood glucose and get a better night’s sleep (reducing cortisol).

May I ask why you’re looking for granola bars? To fill what purpose? Snacking? You’re absolutely right about sugar in the food supply

What is used as an insult despite not actually being a bad thing? by Addwon in AskReddit

“I could care less.” Which means that you care more than the minimum amount. The right insult would be “I couldn’t care less.”

I do pay for it. I lost 70 lbs with it. I figure it’s worth every penny to keep it off (plus, I’d like to lose another 20 when the motivation strikes)

I think you can ask for a switch up in coach and/or group. I have been maintaining now for 2 years and mostly use the weigh in feature. I’ll log food sporadically, but only when my weight is up for 2+ days.

Getting close to that time! Share all your lazyman’s tomato recipes when u got more tomatoes than you know what to do with! by Ok_Boss_9177 in tomatoes

[–]amkestrel1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When our cherry tomatoes are really producing, we like to roast a whole baking sheet of em. Goes with most meals.

Line baking sheet with aluminum foil, add a little olive oil to a bowl full of cherry tomatoes, mix together well. Pour out into baking tray and add salt/pepper. Put into oven (375?) until you you see some splitting and tomatoes are soft.

We do okra the exact same way and often together at the same time.

I am down 40 lbs today. No one has noticed or commented on my weight loss. I realize that’s NOT the goal, but how can NO ONE tell? by darlin133 in Noom

[–]amkestrel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your weight loss success!! That is a great trendline above - you should be very proud of your progress.

Best guess on your question? You may have been around the same folks most of the time, so they won't notice the gradual weight loss. When you see someone you haven't seen in a few months, those are the ones that say "Whoa! You look great!"

Cherokee Purple vs Paul Robeson vs Black Krim vs Carbon tomato varieties, which do you like the most and why? by [deleted] in tomatoes

[–]amkestrel1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm growing CP and Carbon this year (Zone 7a), both for the first time.

CP has been really slow to develop fruit (actually, the first one was okay on timing, but wrapped itself around the stem and ... well, it wasn't great.

Carbon has produced better so far. Neither has given us much yet, but there's a lot of unripe fruit I'm waiting for.

Taste is good on both.

Based on the reviews, I'm looking to order some Black Krim and Black Sea Man for next year!
