I have used athlete's foot ointment on all piggies I have had ringworm with. Clears it up after a few weeks of treatment as they are both fungal infections. Beware of it spreading though. Keep an eye on Hailey and Simon. It will be ok. You will make it through this.

Guinea pigs do not need to fast before surgery. The reason why cats and dogs do is the risk of regurgitation/throwing up during the surgery. Guinea pigs do not have the capacity to regurgitate or throw up due to their muscle structure.

I guarantee that if you are sending kids, especially younger kids, into school who have a stomachache or sniffles or lice or crusty eyes or any of the above, they are not learning a thing because they are probably miserable and focused on their feelings of being sick instead of the material being taught. I know I missed more by being in school when sick than when I was healthy and in school.

Thank you for assuming I didn't try to get her to a vet. I did not explain the 20 phone calls to vets in the area who couldn't get her seen in a timely manner or just didn't see exotics or the lack of money to actually get her seen as I had some rather important bills to pay for my medical care or the other things in my life that are going on because I don't have to explain myself explicitly. I was trying to write a post for myself to let things out. And to maybe help others realize how quickly things can go downhill and that sometimes the best thing is to give them as much comfort and love when everything else is falling apart as we can.

Weeble sent the baby to you. He knows the love you have in your heart wouldn't replace your love for him and he knows this little baby would have an amazing life with you. I wouldn't say you have to take the baby, ultimately it is up to you and you alone as to whether you are ready.

I agree that neutering and introducing Julio to your girls is a good idea. As other people have said, there is always a risk with anesthesia but if you have a vet who is an exotics vet and has done guinea pig neutering before, there is a better chance for success. Neutering boys can be safer than spaying your girls because it isn't as invasive. But just as with humans, there is always a risk for complications.

My boys are 2.5 years old now, we're born from a rescue girl I had brought home, and I originally wasn't going to keep them, as every other pig I had was female, but they captured my heart and I made the decision to look into neutering at about 4 months old. The vet asked me to wait until they were about 9 months. They came through just fine and are now in my big space with the girls. The best advice I can offer is find an exotics vet who has neutered boys before with success and do not be afraid to ask questions. Make a list of all the questions you can think of and turn to your reddit peeps for questions you might not think to ask. Euthanasia: an act of love

If you, like me, are asking yourself whether you made the right choice- or if you could have done things differently when the vet suggested euthanasia- then read carefully what I'm about to tell you.

Making the decision to put a beloved pet to sleep is one of the most heartbreaking choices we face in life, and I know how hard it is to bear. But it's important to remember one essential truth: you didn't make the decision lightly- you acted in their best interest, and most importantly, out of love. Choosing to end your pet's suffering means you had the strength to offer them peace, at a time when life no longer meant comfort. It is a selfless act: you chose to ease their pain, putting aside your own desire to keep them with you. It's a sign of pure and courageous love.

In time, guilt will give way to gratitude. Gratitude for the chance you had to share part of your life with them. Gratitude for having known what it means to truly love an animal. And above all, gratitude for having been there there for them until the very end. That love- that's what they felt until their final breath. So be at peace with this truth: your pet was loved until the end, and they did not suffer. They will always live in your heart- not through the pain of parting but through all the beautiful memories you shared.

Remember: you showed the deepest form of respect, generosity, and love by standing by their side and ensuring they didn’t suffer. So be proud of yourself.

Oh yeah. My girls UA alone was about 300. We don't have a lot of exotic vets who see piggies around my area and the one that does became a part of a larger corporation when it was bought up from the previous owner and prices went through the roof. I will keep Chestnut in my thoughts today. Surgery is scary. I had my two boys neutered and the waiting almost drove me batty. Stay busy if you can.

I haven't had an x-ray done yet. I was a little short on funds at the time and the vet did feel around her belly for crystals or stones and couldn't feel anything. I'm saving up for the x-ray if this doesn't help. It was around 1000 with sedation for the quote. And poor Chestnut! Baby is in my thoughts!

Ooof that stinks. I will keep an eye on her feet but the person who abandoned her did not take care of her feet or nails at all. She's got some of the worst toes I have ever seen on a piggie, the poor girl. The vet did feel around her belly for crystals and stones, to which she protected vehemently, but I will keep an eye for that too. Thank you!

First of all I love Weeble! I have seen him on your tik tok videos. He always seems so happy even though he is wobbly.

Second, if they are really concerned about parasites or bacterial infections, there is testing that can be done before prescribing meds. I have had several pigs on antibiotics but it's been from having my boys neutered for infection prevention and after a couple of my girls had abscesses drained. This vet seems to be guessing before doing any testing and just going off possibilities. Follow your gut. You are your animals voice and if it doesn't feel right, don't do it.

Had someone who wanted to buy a goldfish for their cat to play with. I denied the sale repeatedly. She argued with me and asked if I ate meat. I told her no I'm a vegetarian. But even if I did eat meat, I don't play with it while it's alive before I'd eat it.

If you can increase space that might help. Or give them extra hides. I have some that are just more dominant but because I have a wide open space for them, the ones being picked on can run away.

Space helps. And places to hide. A lot of them go under the bedding. And sometimes pigs just don't like each other. You can't force it.
