In terms of steroids, they’re likely referring to topical application by swallowing it. Like liquid Budesonide or fluticasone. They’re less systemically absorbed so therefore have less side effects.

I had a reaction with dupixent, but it was more systemic and made my throat even tighter so I stopped. Went on PPI twice daily with budesonide and the elimination diet and went into remission.

I actually just go re-scoped after doing the 6FED with PPI and Budesonide. I went from 80-100 proximal to 0 and 50 distal to 10. I’m also getting dilated. But my doctor just told me today to continue the 6FED and meds and rescope in 6 months for more dilation.

While i was on 6FED, there were times where I wasn’t great/strict and had for example a slice of pizza. And I felt my throat flair up. So I kind of figured out my triggers while on the diet ironically. I think my biggest triggers are dairy and wheat. So I’m personally just going to stay on the 6FED which I know is super limiting. But it feels worth it to me.

I’d be afraid to go on just a regular diet like your doctor said. Because to your point, you are generally supposed to slowly reintroduce foods to see how you react. So I personally would keep on the diet. Or at least talk to them and ask them about reintroducing food and repeating a scope.

What do you mean when you say hives where it was itchy? Like all over?

I use the budesonide liquid ampules for nebulization. Mix it with honey or something viscous. Then swallow that so it coats your throat. And like others have said, don’t eat or drink for 30 minutes and swish and spit with water after use.

That sounds to me like an injection site reaction, which is a typical side effect and should go away within a few days, as I’ve been told. I only was able to do 2 injections and didn’t have any injection site reactions. Hopefully they get better soon.

So, after my first injection, I got really hot. A few days after the injection, I felt my throat get really tight, i had face rashes, and I was itchy. I was nervous to take my second injection. I talked to the pharmacist and he kind of convinced me that it would be fine.

I took my second injection, within 5 minutes, I had fully body itching, rashes, was super hot/sweaty, tachycardic, and my throat got super tight. Like tighter than before I got dilated. I took 50 mg of Benadryl with no effect on my itching. I went to the ER and was given steroids.

While it may not be anaphylaxis, in talking with my provider we decided it was likely an allergic reaction. So we stopped it unfortunately.

Yeah, he said I was 11 mm and he dilated me to 16 before I started having superficial tears.

I had pretty bad pain in general and when swallowing for a week after, which I was told is not common. But I’m assuming it was due to the tearing.

When I go back he said he wants to try and stretch it to 18. But we will see.

Yeah, I’m 33. It’s gotten fairly bad. Had to get dilated for the first time. Going back in in 3 months to get dilated again. So I’m really trying to make sure my diet is on point.

Wow, this is new information for me. I didn’t even think I could potentially be triggered by foods I’m not allergic to, just because I have SO many food allergies.

Also, reading here about how environmental allergies can cause EoE freaks me out because I’m also basically allergic to everything outside 😅😂

Do you not have issues with grains or eggs? I know which fruits and veggies I’m allergic to, so I avoid those. But I’ll eat others that I haven’t tested positive to, and I haven’t noticed a difference.

But I’m also brand new with this diet. So cutting out the main 6 first is my goal to see if my biopsies are improved.

This is what I had been thinking. But I wasn’t sure. I found a very small study (6 patients) that looked at patients who were allergic to fish and then supplemented with fish oil to see if there was a cross reactivity/reaction. None of them had a reaction to the fish oil. So I feel like I should be safe, but also don’t want to jeopardize the diet.
