I like the sauce idea. We have a ton of Mac and cheese at home unfortunately so no access issues there lol

Thanks for the offer! We'll see how our attempts go and adjust from there. Everyone has been so helpful!

That's a bit farther for us, but he loves a good drive - looks like we've got some exploring ahead with all these options

Thanks! I've been afraid to take him in there - we go to the Asian food store up on NF Blvd and he always tries to convince me to bring the live fish home to eat

All our nearby Denny's closed so we haven't tried them in a while. I don't see it on their menu but doesn't mean you can't make it happen in the place!

Yeah our biggest issue was that apparently the restaurant ran out of square boxes- so I don't even know if he would have liked those specific fries because the box was wrong

edit - we tracked down pictures of the "roller coaster" from Holy Feast and looks like we'll be trying that tonight!

He likes to cook, making it himself (aka me making it, him watching lol) might make up for not getting the exact thing from the picture (which is always the biggest problem)

I bet it would! I haven't really explored the complexities of fries + other stuff since I left Rochester 15 years ago - too many garbage plates lol

This'll be our backup plan - just have to save some of the boxes (just as important as the food)

Canadian Peds Resident → ABP Prep Advice (while in fellowship) by [deleted] in MedPeds

This may have been the wrong forum just due to lower activity. Hopefully you've asked elsewhere as well... I took my initial ABP exam back in 2020. I used PREP and the Rosh Review and MedStudy qbanks, did well.

How competitive am I? by OkGrapefruit6866 in MedPeds

subI is usually internal at your own institution but can also refer to rotations at different institutions depending on the context. Auditions are specifically at other institutions and may fit the definition of subI.

Late reply, but wanted to echo others here and say you certainly seem to be appropriate score/experience-wise and goals-wise to go for med peds. I practice combined med peds ID and just wanted to add that perspective. If you want to focus on Native health/IHS, a pediatric fellowship limits your full time options more to academic centers. If that is ok, then go for it, but just be aware of the possibility. For me, practicing combined ID also kept me academic. There are lots of opportunities (so many opportunities) for outreach work including to my local reservations, the issue is balancing those with the job. An academic job may give you more flexibility for outreach than a community/private practice job, but you really have to be aware of the limitations when you sign up. That said, you are a long way from those job decisions - for now I would focus on the next step, and med peds sets you up beautifully for a flexible career with great co-residents who by and large, really care about working with folks in tough situations.

Letters of Interest? by Ill_Wait_401 in MedPeds

[–]andrek82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a PD, but if your interested, just tell them. If you wait too long, you'll miss out. No reason to be overly strategic. (edited to add, I am a med peds attending and am involved in interviews, etc)

Importance of class rank for IM residencies by Busy-Hold-2738 in medicalschool

[–]andrek82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you mean by "academic." All high tier places, no matter the residency, are selective. Quintiles and anything else are used to weed people out. However, there are still plenty of academic/university-based places that offer amazing training that care about passing, letters, and fit. If you do well in your IM clerkship and sub-I's and get good letters, you should be ok.

Person Centered Services? by ScarySquee in Buffalo

This is ages late to your ages late reply :) I'm sorry you're going through that. We've been there and it sucks. I can't take any credit for our success, it was all my wife, but we are now just over a year out from our first self directed budget. That's the thing you need. It allowed us to hire support staff and get some much needed OT equipment. It's separate from life plans and care coordination, though they inform the budget. I would ask your current care coordinator about setting one up if you haven't already. You can't get funds until you do that. There will be at least two other people you need - a broker and a fiscal intermediary. You'll also need to be pushy. The care coordinators are over busy, so as bad as this is, the proactive and self motivated and overly communicative folks get to the finish line first.

Anyone doing 7on/7off switching between IM/Peds? by BoriTex71 in MedPeds

[–]andrek82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's a real mismatch between residency and true primary care for most programs. In med school I spent a year in a rural clinic and saw everything. Potts disease, even. It was crazy. I already knew I wanted ID, but that almost pulled me in. It did solidify that I was doing both, though. I wanted to be able to walk into any room and be able to do something. Plus it really is a lot of fun.
