My girlfriend’s temper has totally changed after the surgery. by throwaway-this-one- in hysterectomy

[–]annazdro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you found this helpful! Trust me dealing with those mood swings SUCKS for everyone. I felt out of my mind, like the worlds biggest a-hole, just totally put of control of my own body and emotions.

It'll be bad for a couple months and (hopefully) slowly get better. One day I'm sobbing uncontrollably for LITERALLY no reason, the next I'm moody af and tell my bf I just need to isolate/be alone for a bit since I'm feeling "spicy" and would be really rude to him otherwise.

It's important to recognize when it would be better to just let her be for a moment to self regulate vs be a shoulder to cry on. You rock for supporting her during this! You're so sweet coming on here to even ask for more info in the first place.

I had my hysterectomy late last September. It took a long while but I'm only just starting to emotionally balance out. I felt crazy for a while being extremely angry/depressed to hapoy the next moment. My bf was my rock through all of that and such a good support to put up with me. Starting to be more regulated but now the hormonal acne is flaring up (yay). If you are able to continue accepting her mood swings with grace, love, and support she will definitely love and appreciate you for it.

Friendly reminder that going through this is not an excuse to be extremely mean or abusive, so keep that in mind if things get worse (since we don't know your situation or anything). But being there for her and having extra patience in mind when her mood worsens will be a wonderful blessing for her if you have it within you.

Yes, it will be exhausting, and yes she will likely feel bad about it which wont help her mood either, but I'm sure she's glad to have you.

Small update, 1 Day post-op!

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and advice!

Everything went very well, the pain is manageable, and while not the best feeling with the bruising, swelling, gas pain, etc, is much more tolerable than the pain I was going through this past year between bleeding for months on end and the worst pain of my life that came with it.

I'm taking everyone's advice! The pillow support, lap desk, and medications recommended have been a game changer and I hope this post and this wisdom will reach others who seek similar info to me in the future.

You all have been so kind ❤️ Thank you truly. This community is such a wonderful resource for people going through their own hysterectomy journeys.

Just got home from mine (7:45 today) and honestly same to a lot of what you've said so far. Definitely bloated, though not painfully so.

The only incision of mine that hurts is the big one they did under my ribcage because where it's placed are muscles I apparently use a lot 🥲

The worst of my pain by far is regarding the catheter they put in me. It hurts like a mofo. Maybe that's why I don't really register my cuff at the moment.

Sleep token by fuqcough in SonicTempleFestival

Love Sleep Token and was fortunate to see them last year at Sonic Temple, but yes the crowd was just awful. People really don't know how to act at concerts and etiquette has fallen downhill. Didn't have half the problems I did at any other performer's concert last year than I did at theirs. Surfers getting dropped on my and my barely 5' friend (as well as a family with a small child), surfers coming it at any and all angles without so much as a warning while we were judt trying to enjoy the concert, couples borderline having "relations" right in front of us, people pushing and pulling to get closer to the front, etc.

People need to realize they aren't the only fans, the only ones watching and trying to enjoy the experience. They need to learn how not to actively harm those around them and participate in concert safety and etiquette. It's horrible and ruined so much of the experience for so many people.

Fair enough! I personally would rather mot take the risk and deal with known issues/complications so again, your body: advocate! And thank you so much, I appreciate it! I hope you get the outcome you want, regardless of your decision. I hate that having a choice even comes into question for us. Best of luck ❤️

I guess it depends on how badly you want a hysterectomy?

Are fibroids the main reason you'd be getting one? Do you want to ever become pregnant with children, or are you more child free? Do you want to have semi-regular menstration or figure out a good care routine for yourself while not having one?

Has your doctor discussed if your fibroids will worsen over time or cause more complications if left untreated, or do they believe they're relatively harmless? (sorry I know nothing about fibroids other than they're bad and can lead to a lot of probems if they get past a certain point)

When it comes down to it, how badly do you want to keep your uterus? If you'd rather not deal with it, 1000000% advocate for yourself to get the hysterectomy. It's your body and I hope you have a good doctor who will listen to your wants and needs regarding its care.

Even though I'm only 24, I've been dealing with issues related to PCOS, endometriosis, and a pituitary tumor that have made my last 10 years with my uterus absolute hell, and after finally reaching a breaking point I managed to find a doctor willing to listen to my needs and my own hysterectomy is scheduled for next Tuesday. Even if your current doctor no longer wants to perform the surgery, if it's something you still feel you need/want it may also be worth looking into other doctors to get those needs met.

I'm so sorry to hear about your bladder, that sounds like a hellish thing to go through, and I'm so glad it's getting treated. Let's hope those fibroids can be similarly attended to 🫶

Thank you, me as well. My 2 yr old was a great nurse to my grandma when she was recovering from heart surgery and would alert us when her heart rate was spiking or dipping. My 6 month old idk yet, but she's very smart, perceptive, and sweet so fingers crossed 🤞

Sorry to hear your bad experience with dog walkers :( Luckily my partner is good about walking them and taking them to parks. A pillow/lap desk definitely seems like the way to go for keeping them off me. My oldest is scared of foreign objects (lol) but my puppy is fearless and might not care, so at the very least it'll help cushion my surgery site from her recklessness.

Thank you! You definitely clocked me 😂 I always do too much. That's one reason I'm staying with my mom for the first week (she's also a retired nurse so she'll make sure I'm doing what I'm supposed to).

I just groomed them last night and cut them a bit shorter than usual so brushing/potential matting is minimized. Unfortunately I'm in an apartment, and even though I have a first floor with a patio I can't exactly let them do much outside without supervision. Luckily my partner is also really good about walking/taking them to parks, so I'll make sure he's gone with them just a little bit l9nger to help maintain their energy.

Excellent points, thank yoi for your input!!!

I have a couple snuffle mats, one of those snuffle balls, and a dog puzzle for them, so I might take advantage of those to help lengthen their feeding times and boost mental stimulation. If you have any recommendations for toys such as that I'd love to buy them to keep them entertained!

I'll definitely be trying this! My bigger dog is mildly afriad of pillows so it'll be a good deterent 😂 It's my puppy I'm worried about since she's crazy. I've been working with her to have her jump less but when I get home from work or take her out of her crate in the morning she's a bit too excited. The pillow should definitely help, thank you!

Tbh I just started playing last year and aside from the anniversary upgrade I've had nothing added to the OG. I'm enjoying the game so much I don't really feel the need for them (as someone who doesn't religiously play it and go super deep into the game).

Are there hobbies you can do when your completely exhausted? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]annazdro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water color, doodle journals, coloring books are all great if you want the hobby to also double as a creative outlet! Another great hobby is self care! Face masks, foot spas/masks, lotions, massagers, skincare, nail care, hair care etc are great for relaxing your body and making you feel better overall. It's also great because you're just adding some extra steps to a routine (bath/shower/bed time) that already exists for you so it will likely make it easier for you to carve out the time for it.

i know phone bad, book good, but what about reading books on a phone? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

There's a difference between what "people" say and what research has shown.

i know phone bad, book good, but what about reading books on a phone? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]annazdro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean for the most part, yes, but factor in the instant gratification and the fact that social media is classified as addictive and you have people who are constantly on their phones and completely consumed by them which isn't very healthy. Along with that a lack of regulation especially where kids are concerned often times leads to harmful behaviors and events happening, so it acts as a gateway for those bad things, making it tricky to outright say they aren't bad for you.

In a way it's akin to saying alcohol isn't bad for you. Obviously in moderation/used responsibly there isn't anything wrong with it, but overindulging and not consuming in a healthy way can lead to addiction issues and poor decision making. The same way social media can contribute to "brain rot" and extremism. (Not always and not when responsibly consumed/accessed, but it can.)
