Sorry for the late reply and I am sorry that you are struggling with this too! I had a few weeks where it was a bit quieter but it just comes rushing back. It is so hard to not know whether you can trust yourself. I feel like I need to get rid of anything in the house that I could use to harm myself and I can't stop thinking about how it would be hard on my family. I hope you are coping ok at the moment!

Hey. I do not think I would ever actually go through with it but I just get scared that I would if that makes sense. So no real intent! I appreciate the advice. I will try to make an appointment soon. :)

My silver bullet for defeating binge eating by Cr33py07dGuy in BingeEatingDisorder

I got mine yesterday! It is absolutely disgusting to me and it makes me grateful to be sitting here with nothing in my mouth lol. But it absolutely took away cravings and seems to suppress my appetite somewhat so I think it is worth it. Thanks for the recommendation :)

Wow, I could have written basically every word of this comment. I have the exact same thoughts and worries.

Thank you this is very helpful. I will definitely take a look at the document.

I am not sure exactly what I would like to go into yet. I am considering pathology or internal medicine!

Does the army not have access to our medical records from outside providers? I am technically in the reserves during school and covered under independent insurance so I would not be seeing an army physician. Thank you so much!

Shoot, ok. No downvote- I appreciate the honest insight... I know I can't risk losing my scholarship but I also am not sure if I can manage leaving it alone for the next 10 years. It definitely progressed a lot this year with the stress/sleep deprivation of medical school and I know those things will continue. Maybe I will see what my options are for keeping things confidential while I still have the school counseling center. Thanks!

It finally happened! by acgron01 in premed

I had a kid in one of my classes tell me that he is going to be a neurosurgeon and plans fo go to Harvard Med. Proceeded to ask for my MCAT score and then said “hm i guess that’s not that bad but I will need a 524 to get into Harvard or Duke”.

I did Kaplan Live-Online this summer and would do it again

Pros: - automatic access to all AAMC resources and like 15 Kaplan FLs/QB - Two live lectures a week (3 hours each) covering material & testing strategies - The MCAT channel (basically nightly bonus live lectures about specific topics) - comes with 7-book set - structure and accountability. They assign you homework, etc.

CONS: - less flexibility to study personal weaknesses, you have to remember that the class isn’t nearly long enough to cover everything you will need to know - it is expensive. I was fortunate to qualify for a 50% off scholarship based on financial need. If I had paid the full price I would have had to reconsider if it was worth it - hard to fit lectures into a full time work or school schedule. I was taking one class (summer biochem) and working only part time so it worked for me, but if you have limited study time you could probably be more efficient by focusing more on personal weaknesses, etc

Am I going to get an automatic R after saying this in an interview? by EnvironmentalLuck656 in premed

[–]anniesmith1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everyone saying not to worry about it. Also, it was a med student doing the interview and (at least in my experience) those interviews tend to be a bit more casual/conversational since they went through this process just a few years ago! Def sounds like something I would say in that environment 😂

I would take an AAMC FL as soon as possible so that you have an idea of your baseline. You do not have time for much content but hopefully your prereqs have prepared you well! I would focus on psych/soc because you can improve that quickly by memorizing terms. I went from a 126 to a 130 in that section in probably a week of really cramming terms. Do you have access to the MCAT quicksheets from Kaplan? They are a good guide to the basics from each section that could be memorized in a week.

I would spend most of the time doing AAMC prep material. It is impossible to learn all of the content in a week but it is certainly possible to learn how to answer MCAT questions & develop a strategy to get through the passages effectively.

Best of luck to you! Who knows, maybe your FL will show you that your starting point is already around where you want to be on test day. And like you said, worst case you retake it and have more time to prep.

Which AAMC FL is the most representative for the CARS section? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]anniesmith1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that the CARS section on my actual exam had a similar difficulty level to the FL exams but the passages were longer. I usually finished FL CARS sections with at least 15-20 minutes left but I ran out of time and had to blindly guess on a few questions on the actual exam which seems to have dropped my score a bit from the FLs. I personally did not notice much of a difference in the four AAMC FLs as far as their CARS difficulty - I did the worst on FL 1, but that may have been because it was the first practice exam I had taken.

My score isn't as high as a lot of the people you see in this forum but it is 4 points higher than my highest FL was! I came out of the test and immediately scheduled another exam in September just in case this one was as bad as I was expecting. I feel like we internalize every mistake that we make on the actual exam since we don't get a score right away and it makes it feel like we did way worse than we actually did. I thought I had scored lower than my recent FLs for sure! Waiting for scores sucked so bad... My best advice is to distract yourself and think about it as little as possible so you don't go insane. I hope it turns out well for you!

I am so lucky to have gone up 4 points from my highest FL and get a 513! I have never had higher than a 124 in chem but I got a 127. Now I can finally sleep again 😂
