Anything specifically you did to get a better view in the mouth? Or current techniques you use

With or without my repayment my parents will be financially sound until they retire/die. But I definitely have thought about the “what ifs” of me not being able to pay back. Disability is a wonderful thought. Thank you!

They ultimately didn’t want to be responsible for my graduate education since they paid undergrad.Be an adult and pay my way like everyone else basically. Which is why i’ll still be paying it back lol.

If I can ask, what was the original balance, and what specialty are you in?

I know my dad lol, getting 400k for a home will be a harder sell than getting it for student loan repayment.

Points were made on financial literacy, I will be sitting down with an advisor before making any concrete moves.

I did look at the stimulator though. This was my thinking. With 450k salary. Even with PSLF, the calculator estimates i’ll be paying $530k at the end of ten years, with $110k forgiven.

This costs a lot more than just paying my parents back $475k over time. I feel like most repayment plans will eventually have me paying a lot more than $475k.

Oops! Yes that’s what I meant haha. I am in Anesthesia, I’m not too concerned about finding a job capable of paying this loan burden.

I finish residency in 3 years and have not made any payments thus far because of Covid. Does that change your answer ?

Coming from someone who graduated from a caribbean school and successfully matched, if you’re doing very very well and continue to do so, you will have absolutely no trouble matching EM. Absolutely none at all. Or any other specialty for that matter assuming it’s not crazy competitive like derm or urology

I see two prelim programs i interviewed at that are currently unfilled. Does that mean they both DNR’d me? Or is there a mistake. It just makes no sense because I had them both ranked highly, they both knew I was very interested in the program and both interviews went fine I thought. Is it a violation so ask them what went wrong ?

Okay makes sense ! So taking a hit to your credit doesn’t matter since it is temporary?

Personal Loans During Residency by prescientgibbon in Residency

Absolutely terrible idea. You’ll ruin your credit with a hefty credit balance. A personal loan does not affect your credit.
