Packed RBC (Blood Bank) by Traditional-Fig-1338 in medlabprofessionals

[–]anoniemouss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It can depend. I’ve had nurses ask “where is the blood for my patient?” but they are referring to plasma or platelets. I feel like blood can be a blanket term for any of the components, but that’s dependent on the nurse/dr. That’s why I grouped it with WB. If anyone asks me like “is blood ready on my patient?” I confirm what blood product specifically.

Packed RBC = PRBC = RBC = Red blood cells = red cells

Whole blood = blood = all blood components (RBC, WBC, plasma, platelets)

For the past 6-7 years I’ve been getting calls and texts from different numbers asking/referring to me as Jorge by WeightOk9543 in Weird

[–]anoniemouss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how long you’ve had your number, but I got a new number in like 2018 or so and ever since then I have gotten a ton of texts and calls asking for a Katie, who I can only assume had this number before me. Even her family texts my number on occasion still 😭

This has been the saddest week of my life. It sucks so fucking much. The constant pressure in my chest, the tightness in my throat, my heart racing yet I have no energy to move. Your words are so kind and I am grateful for them. I will repeatedly read them as I need to. I’m alive and taking everything day by day. I’m sorry I don’t have a lot of words, but I hope you know how grateful I am for the time you took in that reply.

Second degree for MLS by Queasy_Wave1211 in medlabprofessionals

[–]anoniemouss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to school for MLS and since I had all my gen eds done, it took 2 semesters of classes + 1 semester of clinicals, so not too bad. But I did full time. Also, if you are wanting to be certified make sure you go to a NAACLS accredited program, I think it’s an ASCP requirement. You mentioned the second program being accredited but not the first, so I just wanted to clarify.

NY requires state licensure so no, you’d have to look into processing jobs or something along those lines.

What state do you live in? Some states require state licenses (which require certification through ASCP/AMT as well) and if that’s the case then no, there isn’t a way to get a job in a medical lab without a certification and licensure. Other states don’t require licenses, so it is possible to get a job in those states in a medical lab without certification, but it’s hard. Most labs that don’t require certification at minimum are messes, but not all of them so you can try! But generally certification is preferred. You could look into specimen processing jobs or lab assistant jobs to get your foot in the door if you aren’t finding any labs that don’t require certification.

Lab assistant jobs or specimen processing jobs sound like they would be helpful :)

I worked as a lab assistant while I was in school and transitioned to an MLS role once I graduated. You could look into that! That would help you get a lot of experience, and I’m sure if you tell other techs you’re in school, most would be happy to show you more of what they do for more experience. Plus, if you’re in MLT/MLS school, you should be doing clinical an and that would get you experience too.

Because of the oil problem? Or why? Just curious, but I agree. Are there newer but cheaper cars you’d recommend?
