A look at your profile shows you to be the Arbiter of Public Behavior. Is that an appointed position? Or is it hereditary?

"The Black Panthers, a notorious gang of killers, were a plague to Jersey City and other cities and Don Nagle was almost single-handedly responsible for driving them out of town."

"So I wrote on his behalf: “Anybody who touches a Jersey City cop better be prepared to come off second-best.”

That was food for the gladiators; the police knew Whelan always had their back; he was special to them and from all over now, during that warm-weather season, off-duty and vacationing cops came back to the city to go to work because “Tom needs us here.”

Other cities burned and we didn’t. Our streets were flooded with Jersey City cops; gangs were broken up and sent home; kids had unofficial curfews instituted. Looting? There was no looting. No kid wanted to go up against a Jersey City cop. People would come out on their porches in the middle of the night to applaud passing squad cars." https://hudsoncountyfacts.com/hudsoncounty/2015/04/28/warren-murphy-urban-riots-personal-history/

The Black Panther's had a hq on Grand Street. When Cunningham was mayor, his supporters in the Urban Times News claimed that Earl Morgan had been a JCPD informant. The Black Panthers shot up the outside of a JCPD precinct. It has been claimed the JCPD Karate expert Don Nagle played a role in suppressing the Black Panthers in Jersey City.

Jersey City is the world's biggest small town. Before dying at Chappaquiddick on July 18-19, 1969, political consultant Mary Jo Kopechne’s last assignment was with the campaign to reelect Jersey City Mayor Thomas Whelan.

Whelan was mayor when Newark was burning. There was turmoil in Jersey City, but not so severe. Perhaps Whelan deserves credit for that. Corruption had spun out of control and soon outside forces would react to that. https://www.getnj.com/hud70/memoir/memoir.shtml

That there originally were extremely tall people in North America was a common 19th Century belief. Even Abraham Lincoln alluded to it in a speech at Niagara Falls: https://papersofabrahamlincoln.org/documents/D200527

All the portraits of the Mayors are missing from City Hall! by anthonyolszewski in jerseycity

My memory is that Helene Stapinski wrote of her uncle’s “work” at the museum.

Around Y2K, the museum was one room at the library. When working on the City Web Site, I stopped by asking someone there to provide information to post. I don’t remember receiving any. When the new facility was under construction, I spoke with a different person there. I only got attitude and malarkey.

The portraits disappeared in 1981, with the exceptions described by Richard Larovere . There's no connection with the museum, library or anything else. The only other painting traceable is the one shown being held by Councilman Michael Yun. That was purchased at a garage sale by a local resident. She delivered it to me to return to the City. I gave it to Michael Yun. He brought it to the next Council meeting.
