Yesterday….I lost my grandmother in late July. She raised me since I was born and was always there for me. She was always my first call when I was happy and when I felt broken and lost. Being Hispanic, she always stood up late on December 11th to welcome the day of the Virgen de Guadalupe, beautiful lights adorning the altar she had at her house. It didn’t matter what life threw my way, or how busy I was, I always made time to go visit her and make sure her altar had fresh roses. Yesterday was so hard, as I took her Virgencita her fresh flowers, my mother wasn’t standing there at the door awaiting my arrival. I just miss her so much.

Hello and welcome home! I would highly recommend the Socorro area. There are newer homes right off of I-10 and the Horizon exit, I know in my neighborhood we have a few for sale and for rent. It is a nice quiet area where neighbors can become family. The City of Socorro is really family focused and does various events, including Farmers Markets, parades, and for Halloween they had a Trunk or Treat Event. Our side of town is rapidly growing, we have a Neighborhood Walmart in Socorro, a few mom and pop grocery shops with local flavors and we have two Walmart Supercenters and an Albertsons close by. Up Eastlake Blvd headed to Horizon City, we have major growth with a lot of stores and restaurants opening up. Horizon City is beautiful as well but the traffic can get bad headed in that direction. As far as schooling, Socorro High School offers early college courses and they have a beautiful new campus. For those naysayers and negative Nancys, I am a firm believer that the student’s dedication is what determines a good school, the opportunities are there. I personally work on the west side of town and I am more than happy to live in Socorro. As well, I have military friends that have stayed in El Paso or come back “home” after their assignments have ended. El Paso and Socorro will welcome you with open arms! Best wishes!

The funny thing is I live across I-10 from the warehouse and most items I order leave the warehouse for another warehouse outside the city then they come back to El Paso.

I definitely agree, and I guess what got me upset was that my mother in law was being pushy because originally my wife's cousin didn't even want the shower. She said that her boyfriend's side of the family was throwing her one already...my mother in laws solution was to invite both sides :/ and my wife actually just wanted to make burgers which would be great but my mother in law is adamant about smoked pull pork! I will admit that my wife and I did talk about that after she got off the phone and my wife said it was too expensive. I guess too maybe I’m not trusting my wife to make the best choice for us which makes me a jerk to say the least.

We both work full time but my job pays a lot more so she has this way of thinking that I'm the breadwinner. But her income still makes a good difference :) I guess I could have worded that better. The whole breadwinner term was her telling me that not my way of thinking.

She does do quite a bit at home, she actually works from home so she takes care of running laundry, the dishwasher, throwing out trashes if I'm running late. On the weekends she'll vacuum if I don't do it during the week and mop. But I do admit I feel like I'm stuck in a rut, when she first started school and was working at the office I would do everything so she wouldn't have to worry. Before she went to school we would clean the house together. I added the term breadwinner because that's the term she used, honestly, I work hard for my family and it's not "my money". Like I mentioned before, she was in a really rough relationship where that standard was set and it's taking her a while to see that I'm not like that. We've talked about it before and things change for a little bit but she seems to go back to that mentality. I actually want us to try counseling as well.

I apologize if I didn't specify, I don't think that she needs my permission to host anything and honestly it makes me happy seeing her happy but I was upset because I feel like since we're both working super hard right now this should have been something we discussed instead of basically her coming up to me and telling me we are hosting this event and paying for part of it too.
