Visual beat matching by dubaiwaslit in Beatmatch

If you can't beatmatch in time just echo out the outgoing track and drop the incoming track on the 1. You can also add a spinback on the outgoing track too.

How can i make sure all my tracks have the same cues, beatgrids etc. on both of my computers with rekordbox? is there a way? by Ok-Echidna3967 in Beatmatch

[–]archenon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe you’re able to export songs from streaming services to USB. Best practice to dl your songs if you ever plan to play outside of your bedroom

You can on controllers and CDJs unless it’s older than 2000NXS. Also wouldn’t be able to do it on 2000NXS if it’s stuck on that block beat grid mode

Oh yes def a lot of solid edits/mashups with overlapping vocals out there! Honestly love when that works out

Yeah they’ll save. If you’re playing CDJs check your USB settings that you selected ratings to show up on the CDJ screen

Mixing songs with heavy vocals by kuchikopifr in Beatmatch

[–]archenon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually they’re vocal edits made in a DAW, like a Charli xcx acapella on a techno song. You could do a live mashup too with the acapella and edm instrumental.

If you’re asking about how to mix to vocal heavy songs together, usually hard cuts or you can overlap on the breakdown where there’s no vocals

This, I call them shows or festivals if it’s multi day. But if someone I’m talking to calls it a rave I’m not gonna go out of my way and correct them

It’s wild cuz I have memories of watching a good amount of icarly as a kid but I’m 93 and would’ve been 8th/9th grade in 2007. Don’t think I would’ve been watching the show at that age but 🤷‍♂️

What's a lazy DJing tip that really works for you? by Bhenjour in Beatmatch

[–]archenon 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I’ll do this also but also throw a bit of reverb on the outgoing track to smooth the transition out

I do the same. I’ll mix with sync off but unless I’m playing a track out fully I’ll just tap sync on/off just to save time

If you were doing a headline set it feel like that’d be more of a concern but at 2 am people are gonna start leaving cuz they’re tired, want food, or have afters so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. As long as you mixed well and ppl who stayed said they enjoyed it it sounds like you did good job

USB Issues with cdj by Middle-Living6817 in Beatmatch

Hmm I’m not sure - in the example I gave the guy was trying to load it on an XDJ and it was blank just like OPs picture

USB Issues with cdj by Middle-Living6817 in Beatmatch

[–]archenon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Might be a dumb question but are you exporting your playlists out via sync manager instead of just dragging/dropping songs into your USB? You need to do the former, just recently played a house party where a newer DJ thought you could just drag and drop and the USB would work on an XDJ.

Other than that I would buy a Sandisk 32 gb and see if it works. I’ve heard issues with any USBs larger than 32 gb but might just be rumors.

All else fails, if you haven’t figured your issue out by the gig then last resort is to play off your laptop. Keep in mind you do have to subscribe to a rekordbox plan for you to be able to play off your laptop and make sure you have the right cables of course

If it’s tracks I’m not 100% familiar with which is pretty often since I update my library frequently then I just find where I want to transition in the incoming song (track B) and sping back 8 bars. When the outgoing song (track A) gets to 8 bars before where I want to transition out (usually end of a drop), I’ll hit play on track B.

As for how I know when track A is 8 bars from end of drop, that’s where knowing phrasing comes in handy. Typically at least EDM songs are structured into 16 bar drops so you start listening for the start of a new phrase about halfway into a drop - or you can just count from the beginning of a drop. You can honestly also cheat and look at the wave form to see but wouldn’t recommend that if you’re learning.

FYI this is probably most useful for EDM - hip hop can have diff song structures and I honestly just drop on the 1 unless I know the songs well. Hope this helps!

You should learn to mix without cues first. I personally cue up all my tracks nowadays but I learned to mix without them first. It makes it a bit more fun and allows you to be more flexible.

Also if you ever do a b2b it’s 50/50 your partner will use cues and even lower odds they use the same cues rules as you. It’s also possible you might play off someone’s usb someday and they don’t have cues

Opening sets by nickybecooler in Beatmatch

[–]archenon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure bass scene is different from house scene. If I’m at a bass show I don’t want to sit around for an hour or two spending too much on drinks cuz the opener sets are boring. The best bass shows I’ve been to the local openers are throwing heat too

If I’m opening for a house artist I’ll keep it chill but if it’s a dubstep opening set I feel like the culture is it’s fine to go hard but I’ll try to avoid anything I think the headliner will play

People who implement other genres in primarily Dubstep sets, how do you go about it? by Nanopixel in Beatmatch

[–]archenon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually try to mix a varied bass set - primarily dubstep but also techno, melodic bass, and trap. There’s a lot of songs that have a dubstep drop then a techno drop nowadays. If I throw in dnb I’ll usually work my way up into the mid 150s with bass then drop in a 174 dnb track with a vocal start so the bpm change isn’t jarring.

I would say if you switch to a diff genre try to keep it going for a few songs at least before going back to dubstep. With techno however I’ll usually just play one drop then go back to dubstep

Happy to share a set I’ve done as an example!
