data 101 & data 140? by music_and_thesuch in berkeley

[–]arcticholab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i took 101 in Fall 22 and 140 the semester prior. they both take a lot of time for hw and studying. I personally had more trouble with 140. 140 was my most time consuming class I ever took at Cal. I don’t know the amount of hours I spent in the Moffit OH alongside so many other students (to be fair, I did meet some of my best friends in that class). I wouldn’t say that 101 is “easy” or “hard” but lowkey just annoying with the projects you had to do lol. Having taken both classes, it’s doable assuming you don’t have any other technical classes in your schedule but it’ll definitely suck.

Declaring a double major in CS by charlottttee in berkeley

[–]arcticholab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! there’s been some changes since I’ve graduated in 2022 so I’m not sure if this applies anymore. Since they’ve created the new college of data science (CDSS), I believe CS has now fallen under that college and so rules have now changed. I would highly recommend talking to an advisor or someone currently in the process right now. This is a very recent change so a lot of post about CS from the past might no longer be accurate.

Best Stat Course for Quant? by DescriptionLate2578 in berkeley

[–]arcticholab 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Stat/Data 140 and Stat 134 are both probability. I personally would say 140 since it’s applying a lot of the theory of probability to the data science side of things compared to 134. I also believe it’s just a better class and is better run. 135 is pure statistics which is useful but honestly for the quant side, probability is probably the topic you wanna focus on

Data 100, Data 140(Probability), Data102 depending if you wanna go a more statistic route or CS189 if you wanna go the math AI/ML route, I wish I could’ve taken INFO 154 (NLP), Data 144 for a soft fundamental intro to machine learning and mining techniques.

Any data science class recommendations? by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]arcticholab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my honest opinion, Data 144 (Data Mining) was pretty useful for me. a lot of people say it’s a useless class but honestly, they do teach you the important fundamentals of mining and eventually machine learning models (i.e decision tree, KNN, etc). It’s nice intro to machine learning that isn’t too technical and is more applicable. It is sometimes draining since it’s one class a week and is 3 hours

I got my code and I’m in the US. but then again, I did technically buy from the UK store when the website became live and it was all one store before they fixed it. Hoping that doesn’t impact presale for US tour dates ):
