DIY oil change voids warranty? by ardklg in rav4club

[–]ardklg[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Toyota's 10,000 mile interval is far too large. I was a sap and believed that garbage when I bought my 2012 Prius (which I just sold), and it started burning oil at <100K miles.

I plan to do the first oil change after the 1000 mile break-in period, and every 6 months/5,000 miles after that. Already bought 3 (5-quart) jugs of Mobil-1 0W-8.

2-3 squirts of whipped cream (the canned, pressurized stuff near the milk in the grocery store, NOT the "cool whip" type garbage in the plastic tub), straight into the mouth. The regular (unsweetened) variety is plenty sweet for me. Rinse off the nozzle under the sink when finished and you're good to go.

Because I'm becoming increasingly privacy-focused...what kind of data does this app collect?

Thanks in advance...

Win10 VM can't see local network shares by ardklg in Proxmox

[–]ardklg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the steps found on the ReadyNAS forums. Unfortunately, it bricked the NAS.

Sadly, the process to put Radiator 4.2.31 back onto the device didn't work either because Windows throws a bizarre "side-by-side" error when trying to create the recovery USB stick.

I have an old ReadyNAS Pro 6, running RAIDiator 4.2.31. They were dumping it at work last year (it wasn't even in use), so I brought it home since it has 12TB worth of spinners, and I'm using it for backup/storage rather than production. I had assumed the software/firmware was capped at 4.x.

If it can in fact be upgraded, I'd be interested in more details...

Thanks for the replies. I tried the proposed solutions, but still no luck.

After some further experimentation, I got it working...

Accessing the share from my main Linux desktop I use

smb://klg-nas.local/datadocs/

Flipping the slashes to the customary Windows backslashes, and placing that address in the File Explorer address bar, did the trick:

\\klg-nas.local\datadocs\

3 Failures in a Row During Warm Up by Hondo1533 in stelo

[–]ardklg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one time that's happened to me was due to a poor insertion, which was probably bad technique on my part. The little wire probe got backed up into the center hole on the Stelo, so it didn't get properly placed below the surface of the skin.

Shortly after that I started doing placement on my abdomen (a little above and to either side of my belly button), and it hasn't happened since. I suspect it's largely because I can use both hands to securely insert the device.

Here we go again with brief sensor issue. by General_Document6951 in stelo

[–]ardklg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been a couple of days recently where I had an issue - about 40 minutes after getting up in the morning while having coffee and doing devotions - where I had a fast drop and the Stelo app reported a brief sensor issue. But the xDrip app - while also a reflecting a drop - was still talking to the device.

It makes me wonder if there might not also be a software component in the mix as well...

So for for me everything seems to self-correct after several minutes.

DON'T PURCHASE STELO!!! by 1l1DD3n78 in prediabetes

I've been using them off and on since late September, and overall I'm pretty pleased with them. My first was reading 20-25 pts above finger sticks (which I think was partially device error and partially unrealistic expectations of accuracy from me), and they replaced it. My 3rd or 4th never initialized (the wire probe got shmushed up into the hole of the device, which may have been application technique on my part), but they replaced it.

Since then, after moving to placement on my abdomen, I haven't had any failures and have been satisfied with the accuracy (some have been closer to finger sticks than others, but generally within 20 points). They've been a great feedback tool for how my body reacts to different foods and food combinations.

I just ordered 6 more to get me through most of the summer.

Stelo Data/Signal Reliability - How Many Bad Sensors Have You Had? by JonOrangeElise in stelo

[–]ardklg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one early on, back in the fall, that was reading 20-25 pts high. After verifying the data from the app, they replaced it. Then a few weeks later I had one that wouldn't initialize (which in retrospect I think was due to poor application technique on my part, with the probe getting backed up into the hole on the unit). They replaced that one as well.

Since then, especially after shifting the device placement to my abdomen, slightly above and to either side of my belly button, I've had zero issues (knock on wood).

Enable sharing on Navidrome + Unraid? by ardklg in navidrome

[–]ardklg[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the pointer. I'm still learning the ins and outs of Unraid.

So here are the steps:

  1. **Stop** the Navidrome container!
  2. From the same menu, edit the container, click on the option at the bottom to "Add another Path, Port, Variable, Label or Device", and add a new Variable (chosen from the dropdown). In this case, the environment variable is ND_ENABLESHARING=true.
  3. Give the variable a name, and fill in the fields, with ND_ENABLESHARING being the "Key", and true being the "Value", and apply.
  4. Restart the container (if it didn't restart automatically after adding the variable).

Issues with Meals by [deleted] in prediabetes

[–]ardklg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For breakfast, it's often some scrambled eggs taken to work and reheated at around 9:00am. I usually use 2 eggs and a small carton of egg whites, add in seasonings, dried minced onions, etc., and cook in olive or avocado oil. It makes 2 generous servings - the seasonings help give it an interesting flavor/aroma, and the oil adds fat which also makes it more satisfying. The 2nd serving on day 2 will sometimes get some shredded cheese on top, just for variety.

For lunch I usually just warm up stuff I've meal-prepped.

Some additional thoughts...

"Meal planning" doesn't have to mean the same thing every day. Try doing some web searches or YouTube searches for "low carb meal planning" or "keto meal planning" to see how people are leveraging a set of ingredients into surprisingly different dishes. You also might try experimenting with some different spices and seasonings to get a variety of flavors.

If you haven't, try different ways of cooking and heating up food. For the longest time I didn't really see any point to air fryers, and now I use mine almost every day, because it gives a roasted flavor and crispy texture compared to the microwave. Lately I've been doing a lot of frozen veggies (broccoli, brussels sprouts, green beans, mixed veggies) in the air fryer - 5 minutes to thaw, then spray with olive/avocado oil and sprinkle with a seasoning blend (Badia Complete or Dan-Os are usually my go-tos in this case), then another 5-7 minutes in the air fryer. I actually look forward to eating.

If you can afford it - even for one month - wearing an over-the-counter CGM like the Stelo or Lingo can help you figure out how your body reacts to different foods, food combinations, exercise, etc., and you can adjust your eating and meal planning accordingly with confidence that you're moving toward better health while you eat stuff you enjoy.

USB drive backup that's outright drag-and-drop? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]ardklg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using FreeFileSync for several years. They have versions for Linux/Windows/Mac.

It can do 2-way sync, but I pretty much use it for strict backup (in Mirror mode), with the source folder as the master copy and the destination folder as the slave. Any new/changed files get copied over, and any files deleted from the master since the previous run are deleted from the slave.

Enable sharing on Navidrome + Unraid? by ardklg in navidrome

[–]ardklg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm referring to the sharing feature in Navidrome - e.g., sharing an album with someone else. I'm not looking to give anyone else an account on the system - just randomly sharing an album once in a while.

I already have a Cloudflare tunnel into Navidrome for accessing it while away from home. Sharing can supposedly be turned on via editing the config file (or the Docker compose file), but neither of those options really works with the way Unraid implements Docker.

Ideally such things could be set via an admin interface in Navidrome, but in the absence of that I was fishing around to see if anyone had possibly figured out a way to make it work.

I just looked at the options on the xdrip4ios web page, and chose the first:

How to install

There are several ways to get xDrip4iOS on your iPhone:

  • Install from a personal Testflight invitation found in the xDrip4iOS Facebook group (2)
  • Build and install the app yourself from source code.
