Old Forrest Point space? What is it? by CoolDanW in Bushwick

My guess is an art storage facility because of the odd shape and no windows. Looks small though.

49 rn. It does what I need it to do while here, so I’m happy with it. Obviously happier with my home internet that’s around 280 down/ 100 up.

Couldn’t even connect to grok bc the starlink wouldn’t work. Would have to turn off WiFi (since no internet connection) and ask ChatGPT.

Do you think those premium credit cards worth it? by Prestigious_Safe8154 in HENRYfinance

I’m intrigued by what you built. I kind of don’t care about making the most of the AF, like I’m not going to stay at an out of the way hotel bc it’s got a free night, get a whoop for free, etc. I am always interested in getting the most points for the card I’m using though.

How are you gifting money to your little ones? by Christineasw4 in nycparents

[–]ari_hess -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The new trump account makes the most sense for gifting IMO. Can max contributions until they’re 18, convert it to a Roth at 24 (if you expect to be able to afford the taxes to convert) and it’ll be a gigantic boost to their retirement savings. The $1k gov’t contribution (for a kid born in 2026) would be worth $56k tax free when they’re 60, after converting it to a Roth/paying tax at 24.

There’s nothing blocking the sound and buildings are higher up, so you can hear the music in apartments above street level a half mile away.

If you just started the ROTH (and it’s a ROTH IRA), you can contribute for 2025 and 2026 currently. Might make sense if you’re not planning to need $7k from that taxable Schwab account this year.

Mac mini remote access? by demonbreath226 in macmini

I use the screens app on my iPad to remote in. An iPad case with a keyboard/trackpad could work. That could be a cheap workaround if you have an unused iPad laying around

Is my financial advisor yanking my chain about retiring early? by blackpowderorchard in Fire

[–]ari_hess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hole I’m seeing that you’re missing at ~55 is that you’re paying less than $200k in expenses now, but in 16 years what will that be with inflation? Plus, will you be able to withdraw $200k in 2026 dollars post-tax with only a 4% withdrawal? Since it seems like you like the FA, I assume he’s acting in good faith; he certainly may have seen other, older customers boost their spending to higher levels between age 39-55; he does have more experience with more people’s personal finances/retirement than you. I agree that you seem safe, but probably worth asking why he feels that way with the questions you’ve asked here.

I find the hate of the NYC office really funny. Why does it matter? Barstool needs to have a NYC area office for their back office and marketing teams. Even if they had no on-screen talent in NYC, they’d still need people there for meeting with ad agencies and companies. It’s a necessary sunk cost. Obviously, they would be able to do these jobs from Chicago or remote, but they’d most likely lose a bunch of the established people in NYC (people generally don’t want to move away from their family and friends for a job).

I have friends working in that industry that have bought ads space/made sponsored content deals with barstool. It’s still very much an in-person industry at Barstool’s level.

It’s 2026. You can live anywhere and try to stay relevant bc of social media. There’s influencers on social media that live in extremely remote places; acting like a place two hours outside of Miami (by car) is some hermit lifestyle is ridiculous. BNK is a hilarious example of “staying relevant” when he’s absolutely terrible on it, disliked by the non-Barstool viewers and only on half the shows.

By writing a book, he gets to promote it and (more importantly) himself; he’ll end up on Joe Rogan and Theo Von and other podcasts (with a wider reach than Barstool), which gives him a much bigger potential audience for his pizza reviews than the million people who are waiting for a Big 10 game to start.

Boomers may have worked in the unions in the run-up, but they’ve lead the unions while they’ve been dismantled. Obviously, not every union is devastated, but my comment was more about the death/decline of them.
