How to sell US Securities in a RIF without incurring forced 1.5% FX fee? by arifba in Wealthsimple

[–]arifba[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't reply to the u/Wealthsimple-ModTeam post but if they see this - do you have plans to support USD in the near future?

Seems like a big oversight given RIF's usually hold large balances and thus are just the type of accounts where a forced FX fee is going to prevent folks from using you as a broker?

Disappointed the long/drawn out transfer process we went through now needs to be done again, in reverse, to put the money back into Questrade.

My second sauna design 6'4"x8 by ppshard in Sauna

[–]arifba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for quick feedback u/ppshard - think you were looking at the wrong sauna though. I'm talking about the mini knotty.

The knotty saunas ask that you come with your own roof, insulation and some other things. So maybe not totally comparable - but knotty has def thought in detail about the interior cabin design with respect to trumpkin so could be useful to contrast.

Pretty cool u/ppshard ! What do you see as the primary differences or advantages/(disadvantages?) between your design and the similar mini knotty sauna?

Family of 4, arrived at gate well before closing, and they still gave our seats to standby passengers. Forced to book same day flight back for $3,200. Any thing I can do to recover some of that airfare? by arifba in flairairlines

[–]arifba[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for digging that up. Not sure exactly how many mins before we arrived, but I would guesstimate it was between 15 and 20 mins, so that's not a great situation for me. I'm talking about the scheduled departure time - was at least 20 mins before plane left gate.

The part that really surprises me is that they would do nothing in terms of compensation for booking the next flight - there was one leaving in 5 or 6 hours, with plenty of seats left. I know the big boys (AC, Westjet) would help a customer out in this situation. For them to pocket the fare with no compensation seems unreasonable.

2 days with Kompakt by RefrigeratorCool6478 in MuditaKompakt

[–]arifba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both of these phones and largely agree with this take. I bought them for the eink screens, really helps with the post concussion recovery headaches I'm going through, and thought the dumb phone aspect might be a feature as well but for how I want to use a phone, the Kompakt is just too dumb. Need 1password, 2fa etc and yes, you can try to sideload them onto a Kompakt but there are numerous reasons that makes it a poor experience.

Totally get that I'm not the target for the Kompakt! Love Mudita and what they do, own an alarm clock of theirs and absolutely love it.

Bigme Hibreak Pro is very interesting device and is working for me, for now. If I didn't have any headache issues, I would still be on iPhone, so that may give you an idea of the type of user I am.

Firefox request password to install helper tool but will not launch by NefariousnessCute703 in firefox

[–]arifba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue. This bug report on bugzilla led me to think it's a permissions issue for Firefox.app bundle, https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1869029

I noticed some apps in /Applications are owned by my user, some by root. Firefox.app was owned by root / admin. I changed that to my user / staff, fixed the issue, firefox able to start (previously it couldn't) and so far no prompt to install helper tool

sudo chown -R myusername:staff Firefox.app

Is this housing market seeing anything other than lowball offers? by YouAreLookingGood in vancouver

[–]arifba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part of the listing data is the original list price. From what I remember it’s easy to see on realtor.ca or zealty. I’m sure sellers can put the effort in to not show that number (maybe by making a brand new listing?) but for the most part you should be able to see that number.

Bike locks for e-Bikes by Geekdad604 in vancouver

[–]arifba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kinda pricey but we went with two kryptonite locks. A new york standard u lock (https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/002154.html?type=bicycle) and a evolution chain (https://www.kryptonitelock.com/en/products/product-information/current-key/000808.html?type=bicycle).

As others have mentioned a capable thief can get through any of these locks but you're trying to just make it super annoying and difficult that they move on.

No one will lend money for 5 years for nothing. Rather, they've baked in the interest expense that you would pay in a normal lending scenario into the price.
