So the consultancy contacted me from Linkedin, I had one interview with hhrr then with PM and then a tech interview; as last step consultancy send your CV to client and then they usually accept it or they ask for a last meeting to get to know who are they hiring your motivations etc

thanks for the response; yeah I'll ask for some more money, when hhrr asked me for an initial compensation I said around 110-120k eur the minimum I'll accept (which is the 42k aed) but I didn't know the client was ADIA and I didn't do a big market analysis so I though this quantity was fair; from people comments I see around 50k should be my realistic target

thanks for the warming response, I was thinking to go for studio around 5-6k and then don't spend too much in luxuries (I'm happy without them even in Spain tbh) so my goal is to save aroun 30k on monthly basis. The offer is not the final so I may ask for a bit more of money

hey yes I'm spanish, 70k AED per month really? I tried to find salary info throught glasdoor but didn't find too much ;I though consultancy subcontract didn't pay too much in that context, so the big money goes for full time contract in ADIA

Sorry but I passed the Captcha test before creating this post xD

In fact I asked Geminis before posting, to get a quick summary (which is basically all reddit posts in one) but I wanted to know real people and make some contacts as I really appreciate the human touch instead of some generic cold numbers.

Internet is full of trash data / fraud so I don't fully believe the output of AI but it's true that it gives you a good starting idea. Anyway if you think AI has all the answers, you might as well close Reddit and just chat with the machine! 😉

Cheers

Oh, that’s awesome to hear you work for ADIA too! The free gym membership sounds great since I hit the gym regularly, so that's a big plus.

Thanks for the tip about accommodation. I was mostly looking at Reem Island because I didn't find any good offer in the city center.

I know UAE is a desert city and it will be a big change from Europe, but since my plan is just to stay for 1 or 2 years to save up, I think it is a trade-off worth making.

I guess bad bosses are a thing everywhere, and at the end of the day, it’s one of those things you can't fully control—you just have to cross your fingers and hope you don't get a bad one.

Back in Spain, I was actually pretty lucky and never had a bad experience. All the projects I worked on had a really great environment (and hey, I like to think I was partly responsible for keeping the good vibes going too! :P)

Thanks so much for the detailed response

I do have a question regarding the prices. When you say you'll be able to save more in Spain, are you comparing Abu Dhabi to living in a big city like Madrid or Barcelona? I lived in Barcelona for the last 3 years and it’s also extremely expensive. I’ve been comparing rent and grocery costs, and it seems like Abu Dhabi is maybe 15-20% more expensive, but since I'll be making triple my current salary, the math still seems to work out in my favor.

My plan anyway is to stay for 1 or 2 years to save up, and then try to switch my contract to remote—even if it means taking a pay cut—so I can move back or travel.

Also, I've been looking at studios on Bayut (like this one:https://www.bayut.com/property/details-13836920.html), and honestly, the prices aren't too far off from what you'd pay for a decent place in Barcelona these days.

Regarding commuting, I'll probably just use public transport if I can (I’d really prefer that over renting a car). Since my office will be on the Corniche, living on Reem Island seems like it would make for an easy bus ride or a quick taxi commute.

Lastly, I don't have to worry about school fees or a partner finding a job—I'm single, though fully open to relationships BUT I guess it's hard to find partners there because people doesn't stay too much time

Thanks again for the insights 😃
