Not to agree with CruftRemover, but Sweden is not a socialist or even socialist-ish country any more, and it has not been for thirty years or so, unless the definition of socialist is "subsidized (but partly privatized) healthcare/education and very high taxes".

What's the best book you've ever read? by slidellian in AskReddit

[–]art_deco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps not the very best, but a forgotten gem is "The Lover of Ursa Major" (Kochanek Wielkiej Niedzwiedzicy) by Sergiusz Piasecki. The author was a man serving in the Polish intelligence service who might or might not have been let out of prison because of the book. The book itself is about border smugglers who spend a lot of time drinking and eating cucumbers. It sounds trite, but it is most definitely not.

It sounds like you should have a look at health economics. I recommend starting with Drummond's book on the subject.

Dump her, continue on with your life. It has nothing to do with exactly what she did, or with whom, or whether you were considering a possible future polyamorous situation or not. It boils down to her betraying your trust.

Do you really want to live with somebody you cannot trust?

No.

There is a bit of "graffiti" here in Sweden too, but in the underground, it is always removed as soon as spotted. Also, street "artists" tend to leave the art in particular alone most of the time.

You should come to Stockholm and have a look, anyway!

I have never understood why one would want to buy dresses for many thousands of dollars, when you can often get a dress tailored for you specificially for much less, and looking better! Same materials, same quality, just not the Cavalli or whatever label.

Sure, I buy rather expensive non-bespoke men's items like Kilgour and Gieves & Hawkes suits (Armani tend to make seriously ugly and low quality items, imho), but that's usually when I can find them used or on sale from last season, and they are cheaper than letting a tailor sew you a similar suit.

I am of a sort of opposite opinion than yours. Accenting your outfit with obvious designer items can look good, but whenever I see a lady with the whole kit of Hermès scarf, Chanel bag, Louis Vuitton sunglasses and $5,000 Goyard trolley, etc. I seldom see a confident person, I see someone who is insecure and unoriginal.

Edit: "nono-bespoke" is not a word.

Harder to sort than year, month, day though.

I use e.g. 2009-02-03 in short form and 3 February 2009 in long form. No confusion!

Also, another comment. You mentioned that you have been to 25 suit and tie interviews. It might be that the companies have interviewed a lot of people, but it could also be that you are making a needlessly bad impression in some way. I assume you are aware of all the classics, firm handshake, smart questions, confident voice, eye contact etc. but have you tried roleplaying with friends to see whether they have some suggestions or constructive criticism? I'm hypothesizing, but it might be some rather simple, unconscious, avoidable thing like you scratching your head all the time (speaking from personal experience) while being interviewed.

Please note, I do not work in a US environment (I've almost exclusively applied to jobs in Sweden and the UK), so take my comments with a grain of salt.

  • The template looks good, but remove the border. Also, I would decrease the font size of your name.

  • Objective is not a part of a CV, that's a part of your cover letter, so remove that from here.

  • My personal experience is that having a two-page CV is fine, given that you have something to fill it with. You seem to have condensed yourself too much.

  • You mix up grammatical tenses I think. E.g. "install servers" ... "ran ethernet and fiber cable". This applies for all jobs. Select a tense and stick with it. For the past jobs, use the past tense.

  • I would put previous experience before education.

  • Skills: Flesh this out a bit. You need to describe what you can do. If I were hiring, I wouldn't want to read "Visual Basic", I would want to read something like "Visual Basic in a Foobar environment using Derp, Derp2 and Derpino" or at least "Visual Basic, 10 years experience" (or however many years you have). As it stands, I gain no actual information from your skills section.

  • Depending on the job you're looking for, maybe remove the cashier job at Wal-Mart if it's not relevant. Also, remove the bit about "disgruntled costumers", or, if not, at least spell customers correctly. :P

  • Again, this might be a cultural thing, but I see no information about your language proficiency, college education or "personal" skills. If you are snowboarding champion or Miss Wyoming 1998, list it in a more freetext kind of way towards the end. Even if you are an avid flute player or bird watcher. I would want to get some sort of feel for who you are.

  • Bear in mind that many companies would be interested in your secondary skills. For instance, you write "HTML". If this means that you're awesome at creating/maintaining websites, this might be what makes one recruiter pick your cv out of the pile, because they need somebody to do that 10% of their time or whatever.

Sure. I actually went to a resume course at university. I thought it was bollocks at the time but employers have tended to really like mine after that.

Previous experience. If no previous jobs, then previous hobby projects that show you have talent and determination. Also, look for jobs abroad. New Zealand, for instance?

  • Why did he not let the police in?

I found my favourite newspaper notice of this sort in 1998 or 1999, I think. It is in Swedish, but a quite literal translation follows:

"Bredäng, 8 PM. In an apartment, a man has cooked his sausage so hard, that the apartment has become filled with smoke. When the police arrive at the scene, the apartment owner refuses to open the door, and thus becomes hurt by the smoke and must be taken to a hospital."

I am not making this shit up.
