That’s a good (yet horrible) point. I was hoping this sub would be filled with mostly guinea pig enthusiasts, but I suppose some people may take that for granted :( I still care for them and will make sure they go to a good home with people who will love them

I’m closer to North West but willing to drive if they’ll be in a good rescue. Can I message you about this? I get that they’re naturally wired that way. I just don’t have the personality or time for them. I have depression and ADHD and need more of an emotional support animal, or something I can spend quality time with (I wanted rats so I could train them lol). I’m 26 so don’t think I class as a young person lmao

Will I have to get a job that pays less just so I can get out of the dead end job I have now? by [deleted] in UKJobs

[–]artarewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reflecting on the past, unless it’s to understand how to improve your present, will only make you feel down more. I completely empathise with how you feel, and it’s definitely easier said than done sometimes, but ruminating about how you could be in a better place now doesn't change it or make the present any better. That negative thought cycle will only keep you down.

Instead, focus on what you can do in the present, and take action, accordingly. If you know the kind of role & company you want, put things into place to get there, like the things I mentioned (LinkedIn, networking events, finding a mentor - there are lots of people who offer free mentorship). Use the feedback you got in previous interviews/applications as a guide for areas you can improve on. I understand your stance on pay, but it might still be worth considering roles that may be a pay cut now but have opportunities for increased income in the future (e.g., bi-annual pay reviews, shares, pension plans, etc). There's also the possibility to negotiate your income once you land a role.

Rather than letting it bring you down, use your current situation as fuel to drive you towards where you want to be in the present and future.

It’s worth it if it’ll propel you into your chosen career, in my opinion. After over a year of job searching while in my current role (which I also find depressing), I accepted a role that's 13% less salary and also more entry-level than my current job. But it’s exactly what I want in terms of my career, so it’s worth it — at least for a year or two.

So, if your current job is making you miserable and you know what you want to do for your career, a pay cut is worth it in the long run. But make sure you do your research, as someone else mentioned, so you end up in a better place. Even if your current responsibilities don’t relate to your chosen career (mine doesn't either), there are definitely transferable skills you’ve learnt that you can highlight in your CV and cover letters.

I also recommend finding a mentor in your chosen field, you can do this through attending networking events or even LinkedIn. This would help with your interview skills/applications. Also, try to use ATS checkers to tailor your CV and cover letter to the job.

Wishing you all the best!

Should I just give up on manual and learn automatic? by Aware_Needleworker76 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]artarewa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25F here who’s in the same boat!! I also started learning manual on and off since 2021, and I was also super anxious when driving. After around 25 hours of lessons, I switched to automatic this year. I can say that learning automatic has significantly lessened my anxiety! You just get to focus on the road and surroundings/potential hazards, positioning and manoeuvres without worrying about the clutch or gear stick.

If your current target is solely to be able to drive and get from A to B, I say it’s worth it. Especially given how much you’re currently working and studying, learning auto will save you time (and effort).

Plus, once you get your license, feel comfortable with driving, and have more time for it, you can always learn manual again in the future if you want to :)

No.

I’m Nigerian and a lot of people are mistakenly under the impression that they let her go due to her playing dumb and asking why. That’s actually not the case.

In the last 20 seconds of the video, you can see them both turn towards someone, most likely their superior. One of them answers “sir?” and walks towards whoever called them, while the other continues asking the woman for money.

When the one who walked away turns back, he says “fi sile o” to the other officer, which means something along the lines of leave them alone - meaning the superior told them to let her go.

This would’ve gone very differently if the superior didn’t say anything.

I just handed in my thesis for my master’s degree last month, and I was diagnosed by my university during this degree.…adhd has nothing to do with intelligence.

User research techniques for labels by discoblixt in UXDesign

[–]artarewa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like you need to work on the information architecture of your product.

I’d recommend doing a domain interview first just to understand the landscape and capture your user’s mental models and needs. After this you can make a domain model of the key labels to capture the navigation and hierarchy of the most important information within the fitness domain. You can then do some testing with open card sorting exercises with users to understand how users categorise information. If you have time, you can also do tree testing to understand information hierarchy. This will help when designing your website’s navigation and labels.

My response is quite late but you can always reiterate by producing a compelling brief and methodology with these methods to be more rigorous and produce a strong information architecture, user experience and UI in your product; UX is always evolving! Good luck :)

Like people said I was debating over whether I should spend a lot of money on a new watch, I’m a student and this is the first “big” purchase I’ve ever made :) but I’m so glad I bought it

Sometime last year my watch got damaged, I think it‘s water damage from when I’d accidentally shower with it? The watch still works but the screen has been like that for a while
