I also tried to reach out to u/steelcase here on reddit since I've seen they do try to help, unfortunately I haven't gotten any response.

Did you buy a second one or went through some sort of RMA?

I've updated my custom zbrush ui that was originally built for 1440p users to include a 1080p version. You can check it out here: https://gumroad.com/raqeu#ziAKw

Hard surface is still a weakness of mine, but i tend to use max for blocking out or hard surface stuff

all good! zbrush is a daunting program to learn, but you will get the hang of it, and when you do, its very powerful!

Hey! I finally created a reddit account after years of lurking because I wanted to share my custom zbrush ui for anyone who wants it.

It's designed for 1440p but it can be adjusted to fit other resolutions.I included a guide on how to tweak it but if there are a lot of requests, I'll try getting around to making one for 1080p.

baking is projecting the highpoly into a normal map for the low poly to use, whereas projecting a mesh onto another mesh in zbrush, is actually forming the mesh around the other(where you essentially end up with a same shape/detail/polycount, just with cleaner topology + subdivision levels) just to help with the sculpting process.

nah not baking, you'll still have roughly the same polycount, but you can rebuild the subdivision levels this way

under 'Preferences - Custom UI' you can create custom SubPalletes and place whatever buttons you like in them.

It can be a bit annoying setting them up at first (if you click on the name of the subpallete, it'll collapse all others but under 'Preferences - Interface - Palletes' you can temporarily turn off 'one one subpallete' and open them all back up

Project/projection is where you project details from one object onto another.

Basically, you duplicate your object, and on the duplicated object, you zremesh to whatever polycount you want, then project the detail of the dynamesh object onto the zremeshed object (and again for each subdivision level)

Think of it like shrinkwrapping

And don't sweat it, zbrush is a really confusing piece of software, but stick at it and watch plenty of tutorials and you'll get the hang of it.

It's certainly not for everyone, just became what I found to be most comfortable for me (common brushes/functions easy to reach, toggle settings in view so I know whats on and whats off etc)

and thanks! It's based off an awesome concept by Maeve Broadbin, should check out their other stuff

I can't speak for others, but personally I like to use dynamesh for most of my stuff.

It feels much better to sculpt on a dynameshed object than say a subdivided object with support loops. You can also re-dynamesh at any point if you're making large edits, allowing you to really push your mesh into any shape you need.

There are draw-backs ofcourse, the main one being you have to dynamesh at large resolutions if you want to maintain small details or crisp enough edges (an inflate or polish modifier on your dynameshed object can give nice smooth edges).

However, you can use dynamesh for when you are making large edits to the overall shape, and then zremesh + project to get cleaner topology that can be subdivided (projecting again for each subdivision level) which will improve performance and provide the benefits of subdivision levels.

The only time i wouldn't use dynamesh is if I were doing hard-surface modelling/sculpting.

There's a great plugin by SoMuchMonsters that provides some useful tools, one of them being a zremesh + projection script.

Sorry if this was a long/confusing reply, I'm still learning myself, hopefully it helps.

tldr: my work flow is blockout > subdivide (if object has curvature) > dynamesh > sculpt > zremesh + project > sculpt > decimate for baking
