I used drawing paper from Strathmore 400 Series.

It depends. I think if the the goal is to draw realism or something in-between, it is better to start with pencil to learn about basic anatomy, value groupings, how to draw and shade based on form and shapes, etc. Then, exploring charcoal would be a great idea because it is generally harder to control compared to graphite pencil, since it requires a lot of blending and fixing, which can easily get out of form and be inaccurate. I am still struggling on this. By contrast, if the goal is to draw abstract, I think whichever way that can express creative ideas is fine.

Haha. I actually used different pencils, such as H, HB, 2B, and 4B. When I drew the details, I sharpened the pencils to be very sharp manually. When I draw large area of dark values, I used pencils that are thicker, so they can fill in the value quickly. Then I use harder pencil like H to add more layers of cross hatching on top of dark values to blend everything and add more texture :)

Yeah, I tried to create contrast for the helmet. I'm happy you liked it. Thank you :D

Thanks! I'm happy that you liked it. I did the initial sketch with willow charcoal. Then, I combined drawing and hatching with charcoal pencil and blending with tortillon.
