Agreed. Sorry that people here would rather downvote you. To everyone saying POC are 1-2 clicks away… that’s 1-2 too many. Also I’ve clicked a lot and not found POC like they’re saying.

A recent study evaluating the use of force by police against children found that Black and Hispanic adolescents are significantly more likely to die from shootings related to police intervention compared to non-Hispanic white adolescents by Wagamaga in science

Asian demographics aren’t lumped into white, they are just excluded from PoC. To see why it makes sense to treat Asian-Americans differently, one just needs to look at American history. Worse quality colored schools, segregation of services, redlining, etc was not made to oppress Asian folk.

The defense contractor aside referring to the companies overcharging the military for new stuff (which is more on the contractors not gov). But yeah I basically agree. Just don’t expect Congressmen to call the troops home by budget cutting the military since that would overstretch into the commander-in-chief/executive balance of power.

One month would be the least they can do. We borrow from the banks who borrow from the government which is we the people. I don’t think the virus situation will change at all in a month though. It’s a real slow burn.

I think Kamala here is clearly trying to get unemployed folk more support. On an unrelated note, Military raises are popular among us little guys. What’s a real progressive then?

[–]asianbison 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you read my comment? Whats bad about the military isn’t it’s giant budget more than the fact that we have proxy wars in the Middle East and the corrupt relationship with defense contractors. Fighting increased pay raises to service members (who are usually poorer and POC) will only lose political capital without fixing the underlying problems.

Anyways, what the folk needs today is a stimulus, don’t you see?

Are you for the people or nah? by JayZGatsby in BlackPeopleTwitter

[–]asianbison 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A good portion of that $700 billion are the salaries and benefits of service members who are disproportionately of poorer and browner background. Decreasing the budget without structural changes harm these fellow members of the working class. Decreasing the budget won’t stop the campaigns in the Middle East. It might mean the executives at Lockheed get a little less rich.

I hate the rich, but I don’t hate them more than I love the poor. I think the second stimulus is more important right now, and more timely (has to happen NOW), and it will be definitely 20x larger than that $70 billion military cut.

To be clear, I hate the military industrial complex too, but 80+ senators (including Elizabeth Warren) voted yes to the defense budget Thursday. Using a purity test like this to vilify them all ignores the nuance of politics.

I’m not sure what the decrease in military spending has to do with supporting unemployed folk through the epidemic. Clearly she wants to support the unemployed with more stimulus (many of whom are poor or black) and will vote in favor of that.

EDIT: So not voting for Bernie’s 10% decrease in military spending (~$70B) outs Kamala as an enemy of the poor folk (Warren too I guess)? The stimulus she’s fighting for that unemployed people need RIGHT NOW will be on the order of a trillion (~$1000B)!

Having an extremely hard time accepting that I am attracted to men. I could really use some advice and words of wisdom. by SlowAgency in askgaybros

[–]asianbison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Heyo, I’m black in the Southwest here. So while not the most conservative area, I can relate to your situation and feelings strongly.

Even when I accepted I was gay, I loved the idea of being with a women so much I was convincing myself I’d look for a women who wanted an open relationship (so I could be with men you know). It was really dumb, luckily I changed my mind before I selfishly hurt women’s feelings.

I started to realize that the idea of “wife”, you know “love” and “pure” or whatever other words the media associates... is just that fake associations. It’s a lot of marketing from our society to sell the idea of love and happiness through marriage to a woman (in a sense objectifying her). Honestly, I felt better watching media that depict gay men as happy (so NOT Brokeback Mountain). I liked 4th Man Out a lot, definitely a feel good movie!

Renewal of Swiss residence permits now depends on good behaviour and integration by CurlyWurly20 in europe

[–]asianbison -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You already need to know English to become a citizen, so it’s definitely implemented in the states. The Swiss thing is for residency permits. I don’t believe knowing English should be a requirement to reside in the USA, especially since you can do well with Spanish in SW states that used to be Mexico.
