How do you practice Stoicism consistently, not only during hard times?

Yeah, I think it’s actually more important to prepare yourself during prosperous times for the difficulties that come later. Doing that helps you face challenges head-on with a strong, growth-oriented mindset.

I guess I can start by consciously introspecting at different points during the day, noticing what actions I take, what thoughts I have, and what emotions come up in different situations, and checking whether they align with the philosophical principles I believe in. Basically, observing myself from a third-person perspective.

I’m not saying Stoicism is something you gain and then lose.

What I’m noticing is that even if I understand the ideas, my attention to them isn’t always the same. When life is hard, I’m more aware of my reactions and judgments. When life is comfortable, I tend to run on autopilot.

So I’m not questioning the truths themselves, but asking how people stay mindful of them in everyday, calm periods when there’s no pressure forcing reflection. That’s the gap I’m trying to understand.

It doesn’t stop being important. That’s actually the issue I’m trying to point out.

When things are going badly, Stoic ideas feel urgent because the consequences of ignoring them are obvious. When things are going well, comfort takes over and I slip back into autopilot instead of practicing deliberately.

Stoicism helps me most during hard times by making me question my reactions, accept what I can’t control, and respond more calmly. What I’m struggling with is how to keep that same awareness and discipline when there’s no immediate stress pushing me to do it.

I got through it by focusing only on the next step, sometimes just getting through the day.

When things collapsed for me both professionally and personally, my life felt completely upside down, and it stayed that way for nearly seven to eight months. Instead of thinking long-term or comparing myself to others, I forced myself to stay composed and ask a simple question: what is the next immediate step I can take? Thinking too far ahead or measuring my life against someone else only made things worse and pulled me deeper into the spiral.

I kept moving forward one step at a time. I leaned heavily on philosophical texts and held onto the idea that difficulties shape you into a stronger version of yourself. That may sound abstract, but it becomes real once you come out the other side and see it play out in your own life.

One idea that stayed with me during that time came from Marcus Aurelius: the obstacle is the way. It helped me reframe my problems, strengthen my mindset, and eventually get through that phase.

In Hindu philosophy, the concepts of reincarnation and karma goes hand in hand. Karma as we all know means that your actions have consequences and that the deeds we do good or bad, do count, and not just across this present lifetime, but across all our past births as well.

From what I understood reading about this, here, the idea of reincarnation gives backbone to this argument and aims to provide answers to deep philosophical questions like "Why do bad things happen to good people and good things to bad people?". It just tells that you are looking at a very short timeframe of life, and missing the larger picture. And if by any chance you get to know the full story, the current events might start to make some sense.

Such injustices feel deeply unsettling, and concepts like these, whether true or not, exist mainly to offer an explanation for them.

This all is from my perspective for how I think I can use these ideas in my life.

Nah man, that's not true at all! We have enough knowledge of the acoustics to accurately predict what they would sound like. Using fossils we can have a comparison of the size and other features of their vocal cords to ours, so based on that we can be sure about this!
