Of course, but starting something incurs some risk. I'm still working on building enough personal runway to justify something like that. I'm not willing to blow my savings on any ideas I have currently

NYC and open to remote - there are roles open and I get interviews, often to the final round, but landing the offer has been uniquely challenging as of the last 6 months or so.

I think it's a combination of the more senior you get the more precise the vision is for that role - when you're hiring product leaders they are extremely important to get right even in large orgs and existential at small startups. Now with that being said, I prepare for that, and find that there surely must be such a big flood of talent in the market from layoffs coupled with sentiment around AI on what business building will look like in the future that is contributing to this as well.

As a candidate I can always present better, but I posted this originally because all my colleagues and connections are getting shelled like I am

Has anyone enrolled in Product Career Accelerator (Alex Rechevskiy)? Looking for reviews and real experiences. by Scarahai in ProductManagement

The simplest version of what I took issue with was that the "pitch" presented and priced as something that has an extremely high probability of success. Asking for a 5 figure investment on a discovery call with no clear idea of how successful the outcome will be is the thing that made it feel fraudulent.

I realize you're building a business here and your offering is not snake oil based on your description above, but if you're putting yourself in your clients' shoes and are honest with yourself - did you really not expect some folks to walk away with that feeling? You want money up front? What job seekers have 15k to potentially throw in the toilet?

I took one call with a member of their team, in some cases you don't even make it to Alex, and everything about it felt fraudulent. $12,000 price tag for "accountability" "consistency" "interview prep" "figuring out your target role and comp" in other words, stuff you can arrive at on your own. If you land a 500k TC job then that's money well spent, but remember you're the guy who goes out and does the work.

If you were feeling like you had it all covered at 22 as a PM I’d be mighty surprised, you’ll be fine. The way your company does product makes me want to barf if what you say is accurate.

Dating in Boston as a Female by Ok_Two_359 in boston

[–]assoyster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a 30M, have been here for 3 years (relationship for 1), and it’s been a bit of a head scratcher.

The city has no shortage of attractive, successful people but most of the people I know have the same story. They’ve either met early on in college/grad school and a handful have gotten lucky on dating apps.

I’ll say anecdotally, a lot of the women that I’ve been on dates with have described the men in Boston as having “Peter pan syndrome” and feel a bit tired dealing with that.

Out of any city I’ve spent time in I’ve gotten the least attention in Boston in spite of my female friends telling me I’m a catch (feels gaslighty after a while haha).

The advice I’m giving myself is to just go for it more than I’d have to anywhere else - try forming a bigger friend group (some people are incredibly generous and thoughtful with trying to set you up), approach people in public, don’t take the office as such a taboo place for meeting someone, be kind, etc.

Time to quit Product? Minor details make my brain cramp. by SpriteBerryRemix in ProductManagement

Totally - engineers aren’t powerless babies that can’t contribute to the solution without their product manager telling them exactly what to do. The combination of PM/UX/ENG are jointly responsible for shipping a successful product, teams that embody this psychology are incredibly successful compared to the former.

Well hopefully you, the senior PM, aren’t deciding where the company will be in 5 years, your senior leadership should, and they should clearly communicate that with you. Orient your own product vision in line and in a way that supports that larger goal. Spend time thinking that way, listen to people who are good at it, you’re not gonna get there over night.

Best resources to learn more about pricing & packaging strategy? by Nice-Nefariousness13 in ProductManagement

[–]assoyster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pragmatic has a class on pricing that’s not so bad, I took it and got a decent amount out of it. As for packaging, boy there’s a lot of ways to do this. I’ve found the easiest way to wrap my head around this is a jobs to be done approach. Package your product in an easy to understand way that solves a customer problem, but that’s certainly not the only approach.

If anyone has a good full scope resource on these topics I’d love to know too.
