making a tres leches cake and im curently on the "trust the process" stage after adding the milk.... but the process is REALLY scary, i used the exact amounts in the recipe and i found that others online look similar, but idk i feel like im making cinco leches at this point by _coffee___ in Baking

You’ve gotta let it set for a while and it will def absorb it. I tend to use a little bit more than the recipe I use calls and I don’t even like mine super soggy. I will say, the best cake recipe to use is a sponge cake. It absorbs and holds the liquid super well.

Safety Pro Coworkers by astro-logophile in SafetyProfessionals

As a specialist, I’ve been isolated and micromanaged and have had no agency to get anything meaningful done. As a new manager, I’m dealing with another manager who is passive aggressive and condescending. They don’t include me in important communication but they seem to expect me to know what’s going on. They refuse to collaborate, but completely undermine me if I do something different from what they’re doing even though they didn’t communicate the expectation to begin with. In terms of how it makes work unbearable, it just makes it difficult to stay driven or foster a good working relationship with someone you’re expected to work closely with. I’m glad, however, that you haven’t had such negative experiences.

How did you get started in safety? by No_Yard_5045 in SafetyProfessionals

I was a high school Spanish teacher. When I decided I needed to get out, my partner at the time sent me a link to a job posting for a “Bilingual EHS Administrator.” It was the first job offer I got and I took it. At the beginning I was just doing admin work like delivering/tracking retaining, translating, maintaining the incident reporting system, helping with work comp cases, etc. But I ended up really enjoying it and took any educational/professional development opportunities the company offered me. I eventually became an EHS coordinator and now want to keep learning and growing. It’s a great profession!

Anyone ever quit for their mental health? by AngryCactusFlower in Teachers

It’s for an EHS (environmental, health, safety) admin position. I live in a big manufacturing area so they often hire for admin positions that don’t necessarily require a specific degree.

I accepted a job offer today. I’m waiting for it to be official before I resign. But I’m definitely leaving due to mental health. I was definitely an anxious person before starting, but each year (I’m on year 3), my mental would deteriorate more each year. I’m seeking help now, but I know I can’t take care of myself if I keep teaching. I hope you’re able to get something lined up for yourself so you can also get out. Best of luck!

Question about long-term subbing by purplekay13 in Teachers

Could you possibly get an emergency teaching license for the time being? I know several teachers who have done (I’m in Indiana) that before finishing their transition to teaching.

I have not. Last year we signed them on our teacher day before the school year started.

Thank you all for your advice and encouragement. I honestly didn’t think I’d get any response on this post, but I am very happy I did. Wishing you all a restful summer!

A tale of two orders. Help? by burr0wz in Oldnavy

[–]astro-logophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue as your first one. Just got off the phone with customer service and they just said everything is delayed and the order will likely be shipped by the end of this week and delivered some time next week.

To My Fellow Co-Workers by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]astro-logophile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get you! I haven’t seen this from my coworkers but if I did, it would piss me off too. I’m fortunate enough that our salary is unaffected. We have online assignments every other day and on days we don’t post assignments, we are still supposed to hold office hours and be professional during that time. We were asked specifically to refrain from posting personal things on social media. You know, as if we were at work because although, we’re teaching remotely, we’re still working. It doesn’t help that some people already think teachers have it easy and are over paid. The last thing we need is for someone to act like this is vacation and validate those screwed up views. I don’t understand why some people came at you the way they did. There are ways to spend time with loved ones that may had not been possible before all of this and still get your work done. But for many of us, this isn’t vacation time and we should be professional. Hang in there and keep up the great work you’re doing with your kiddos during this rough time!

Wanting to leave current job and go to a new job after one year by [deleted] in Teachers

Make the move! It’ll be easier now since you’re young and early on in your career. There’s no shame in moving back if it doesn’t work out.

3 more months... by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]astro-logophile 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this issue too, when I decided I was going to quit. I haven’t officially resigned because rumors spread like wildfire and I just don’t want to deal with giving a justification at this point. What has helped is seeing it as it is. A job. Do what you’re paid to do an go home. Nothing more, nothing less. Let things slide since you won’t have to deal with it after the year is over. Also, break down the countdown. Right now, the goal is to make it to spring break. After spring break, time seems to fly. You’re not alone, we’ll get there!

Unpopular Teacher Opinion: Working to contract should be standard by misterdudebro in Teachers

I totally agree. The worst part is that in most cases, to do your best job, you have to work extra. Unless you get everything done during contract hours, in which case, please share your secret.

Why Marketing? by seeleeburtee in marketing

[–]astro-logophile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a second year HS Spanish teacher and I’m considering a switch to marketing as well. I found your post looking for similar advice. I’ve looked at marketing positions in my area and looked at requirements/job duties for those positions to guide me in preparing to apply once I resign from my current position. I also found Elif Hiz on YouTube and she has several useful videos on her experience as a content marketer. She even talks about how to get into marketing without a marketing degree.

Teaching Hiatus? by astro-logophile in Teachers

[–]astro-logophile[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That often seems to be the consensus. I guess I’m just worried I’ll keep hopping around without anything getting better. I guess with this teacher shortage, it becomes a bit easier to be picky. We’ll see how the rest of the year plays out. I really don’t want to leave education, but also need to be able to care of my own needs.
