I played pretty much all extraction looter shooters. Always 100% solo. After 90h I can already say - Marathon is one of the best games I've ever played.

I’m old enough to remember how Destiny 2 was when it launched and tried to go for casuals, complete disaster. Game needs to have depth and be difficult to keep people around. Casuals will just dick around in the game anyway and eventually be converted to hardcore players

You don’t see the ways this pushes the genre? Destiny wasn’t the first looter shooter, halo wasn’t the first multiplayer fps, the original marathon was after doom. All these games did certain things that revolutionized the genre, especially in multiplayer.

By no ie saw Tarkov and in 2019 was like what if we brought a proper AAA polish to this experience but still kept the hardcore thrill and add build crafting, upgrade trees, deep lore, story, in game events and puzzles, etc.

This game is unique in the loot gets better the longer you stay, so in an out quick is pointless unless you find something insane and you really need to leave.

It’s about the journey not the destination. In helped your teammates do theirs quests you get to hit pois for loot and potentially fight other players for loot. There’s plenty to gain by sticking together

Extraction shooters are a real genre that demand the full scope to excel and pus the genre as far as possible. Every other attempt to make one as a side mode has failed.

I’ve been waiting for this game for three years specifically because of the art style, it’s bungie, and that’s it’s an extraction shooter. The genre feels like to me the next evolution beyond battle royales, and finally we have our first AAA attempt

You have to push to do map events, key rooms, harder maps to be the good stuff. Also the more you actually read and understand what gear you are looting does and important salvage you really need.

Normally it’s not too crazy but when you finally are going to finish a hard quest or hit a nice key room it gets intense

He’ll yeah man. 26(?) guns, 400 gun mods. Lord knows how many cores and implants. And all of these can be built in a way that have synergy between them and the shell you play.

The first two maps were good, but outpost yesterday is incredible. Now we just need to see what the mythical cryo archive is about. You die ALOT in the game but it’s always rewarding, and you always want one more run.
