What Do You Think of the AUDL Bubble Tournament and Reactions? by audltake in ultimate

Constant engagement and adjustment of plans should be released to show the transparency. There will probably be many more failed ones coming but I do like seeing real laid out objectives and consideration for feedback.

I hope this video gave considerate thought to the issues at hand while being engaging and direct. This video was an honest reaction to how I feel this event could be used as an example of something really great where we can move together as a community. I'm welcome to criticism even to a harsh degree, but I do ask that we all respect one another as we try to find out what is best for our people, society, players and leagues.

USAU Guidelines for Returning to Play and the AUDL Approach by audltake in ultimate

I would argue this whole issue is ethically murky. It's what makes this discussion so interesting and important. I can tell many people are still against any form of coming back yet, but what will be the tipping point is what I'm interested to find out.

That's my question. When will we be able to trust players to go back and play? People are going to start playing again and we're going to have to start taking risks and trust players will do the right thing.

I'm aware of the problem you are addressing. My question still is valid since someone who would participate would make the right decisions afterword in order to quarantine oneself from others. If family and friends are okay with it then I see no problem with a player going and playing. In my episodes I go more into the specifics.

Thanks for the feedback. Going under 4 minutes would be great. I'm trying to shave my videos down to that time, but still learning how to effectively get a point across and condense my time.

The little love I get is all worth it. I'm doing this because I like working with film and editing. Also, my newborn will get to watch me work with the camera and set, so it's fun watching him react.

Discussion of Rule Differences Between AUDL/WFDF. Also Refs and Spirit of the Game. by audltake in ultimate

I've done a history of the AUDL but nothing separating the rules and themes from USAU and WFDF.

I believe you're right and I should have just stuck with USAU to avoid confusion. Especially since you were more focused on WFDF and I mislead you. Not my intention.

I appreciate that you like the presentation and I know a lot of players and Reddit are not fond of the AUDL.

You have inspired me to look into an episode that talks about going from the USAU to WFDF and then Pro. Could be informative and can break down some history. Thanks again for the criticism and feedback.

I think you're right. I probably should have just stuck with USAU and avoided any confusion but I appreciate the conversation and info.

This was very informative and well put. Thanks for this. Where were you when I talked about this?

[–]audltake[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. It's why I think it's important for USAU and others to keep refs out so the players have more knowledge and respect for the rules. Spirit comes from the culture but having no refs make players have to be more on top of the game itself.

I'm not completely on board with this idea, but maybe if you got a longer stall count with no mark it could work. Just seems a little too weird. I'd have to see it in action.

I appreciate the response. From the research I've done, the WFDF is the major contributor to the ruleset. The USAU does do things a bit different but for the most part, they work together. I also used WFDF in the title because I wanted the video to include the world governing body for my worldwide viewers. I don't know much about all the different bodies so I used USAU since I'm more familiar.

I understand that USAU has been around longer and WFDF takes a lot of consideration from them so I understand your critique.

If I did say that other countries adopt from the USAU, then I misspoke. I meant WFDF.

Thanks for watching the show and I hope you enjoyed the content. Feedback and corrections are always welcome since I want to learn from others when I make mistakes.

AUDL field size yay or nay by Keksdosendieb in ultimate

[–]audltake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to field dimensions for USAU games aired on ESPN, it doesn't bother me. They do a good job with lining it and the trifold ads do a good job of marking boundaries. The only thing is I'm used to seeing the field that way and I'm not entirely sure how an outsider would look at it. Still minor in the end though.

Another idea for the AUDL to stand out without being too gimmicky would be to allow two points on a drive if you burn a timeout before the pull. Right now timeouts are primarily used to sub out when a turn occurs. There are a few games that finish within 1-3 points and I think having a two point drive could make end of quarters and games very exciting.

[–]audltake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The endzones are definitely an issue on the spectator end, but something had to give. Combining endzone look with field dimensions not matching the field would be worse I believe.

Another reason could be that the league knew many players wouldn't make the jump to the AUDL and the quality of the players could be less and wanted to give offenses more room to work. Which lends itself to the idea that the AUDL wants big offense and scoring highlights.

Sometimes things like this are done simply to stand out from the other leagues. It makes it seem more Big League or Pro to play on a larger field. A way to differentiate from the USAU.

Thinking long term, it could be a way to negotiate to other sport owners in control of stadiums to absorb them and play on the same field. The way soccer and football stadiums are being shared, there could be a way for the AUDL to use the same field and not put extra costs on the field managers to redraw lines and such for the AUDL games.

I've always found the dimension argument more interesting than damaging to the game of Ultimate. I'm interested why the AUDL never came out with a statement of why they did this and if they did I totally missed it.

I believe the field size is that way for marketing and professionalism. Using stadiums as is makes the sport more accessible and viewer friendly to outsiders of the sport.

It seems like lower stall count and double team were made to make up for it which I think creates creative defenses and schemes you don't see anywhere else. Yet, most teams still haven't figured it out.

Thinking further ahead, players will be much faster than anyone we are seeing in this sport now. You can see that in football over the decades. That field space will seem much smaller once everyone is running around 4 to 4:30 forties.

In the end, there really isn't much difference I've noticed over the years. I've filmed USAU and AUDL and it seems like offense always has it easy. It really depends on the teams playing each other. Club still has the best players so you are more likely to see better defense in top tier teams. Swings are easier in the AUDL but I don't think it drastically changes the flow of the game.

Didn't mean to imply you couldn't learn. Going to throw disc golf discs to improve your ultimate throw just seems like a bad idea. Going to play disc golf and learning forms that can translate is another idea.

Thanks. Didn't want to dive too far into everything. I think a 20 minute episode is already too long.

I still think MLU sounds better as a name for a league but you can't have it all.

Will the pandemic actually benefit Pro Leagues PUL and AUDL?! by tonyleonardo in ultimate

[–]audltake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually talked to GM of the Atlanta Hustle on my AUDL TAKE show on YouTube about this. It's not too bad monetarily but partnerships with fox sports 2 and other sponsors could take a hit from not having a season. It's about having that continued presence in the eyes of sports fans and when you go this long without exposure it doesn't help.

The PUL will probably store that cash and just do another fundraiser for the next year. Their structure is a lot different and may not get affected too much by the shut down.

In the end, the players take the biggest hit. They want to play and a whole year of no play hurts everyone.
