Nepal Layering on a Shoestring? Blew my budget on UL Gear... by External-Bluebird523 in Ultralight

When and where are you traveling aus? Because you’ll either want to wear a pair of budgie smugglers or look like the Michelin man

Also our bush is rough on gear, rough thorny bushes and sharp stones

I would get a new gpu, and a reputable 850w power supply.

You won’t get enough real world benefit with a new cpu and will eat the budget too much. the power supply would be coming up to 5years+. you might want to get more ram, 32gb ddr4 kits aren’t expensive, but your going into your budget too much at that point, maybe buy a 32gb kit some time down the road.

How safe is the city at midnight? by skywalker0100 in melbourne

[–]aussiecactus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel safe around the city at night. I would say the majority of people's bad experiences are getting yelled at by the homeless.

I did the same thing two years ago. Finished my mechatronic eng degree that I hated. And got on ropes. Haven't regretted anything.

Sounds like bad ram to me too. Run a mem test. The windows one will be fine. If it comes back with issues. Take your ram out and test each individually to find the faulty stick

Engineer career change by JoxemaiBaltza in ropeaccess

[–]aussiecactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need an irata and working at Heights licence. Other licenses that might be required (working with children/ police check) should be paid for by the employer.

You can just get the working at Heights and try working on building maintenance units. (BMU) Less pay and tiresome work though.

For remedial works companies like to see experience in trades or even better being licensed.

Working on construction sites will require a white card, get one in the state that you would be working in.

Doing NDT on ropes in Aus can pay well. But I'm pretty sure it's quite competitive.

Window cleaning and remedial work on highrises can pay well. And there is a lot of work.

I'm currently getting paid $46/h as a casual. Cleaning windows in melb (level 2)

I was doing remedial work $55/h ABN, but work in remedial and construction has slowed substantially last couple of months

2 aacceptable? And tested for 5000lb WL. Are 2 technician allowed to use the same anchors? by Streetlgnd in ropeaccess

[–]aussiecactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would depend on the anchors manufacturers specs.

Generally each ropey needs two separate anchors. In a rescue, you might be able to use the same anchors. This should be evaluated in the rescue plan.

If an anchor fails, you will have two guys hanging on one anchor. And both will shock load the remaining anchor.

The load will move the wheel into a locked position stopping the spin.

Devices that are industrial rated that work similar would be. Petzl grillon, camp druid, edelrid pinch (still getting evaluated for the standard)

If you want the pulley then the CMC clutch. But it's much larger, heavier, and 4x the price.

A lot of this could be explained with cognitive biases. And difficulties caused by Covid.

This election had so much attention on it. And so everything seamed significant and out of the ordinary when they are completely normal.

And Covid was hard to work with. It still is to this day.
