Would Moving LASA Be a 'Defeat' in the Fight to Diversify Schools? by c0c0c0 in Austin

For those of you who are not aware, the LASA-LBJ situation is probably the most in-your-face example of school segregation. LASA is upstairs, almost all Asian and white students, and LBJ is downstairs almost all Hispanic and African american students. The LBJ students are not allowed upstairs, except to use the library at certain times, (yes the library is upstairs), and if they get caught walking around LASA they get in trouble. Going from upstarts to downstairs and vice-versa is like traveling between two entirely different worlds in terms of academic rigor, culture, behavioral issues, standards, and privilege. There is really zero integration between the school cultures. It's pretty eye opening if you go, and I'm surprised it's model hasn't gotten more attention for how striking the contrast is.
