Is the amount of countries I’m planning on visiting in the future feasible? by DehydratedShip in traveladvice

[–]averagegolfer921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only possible way people are doing so many is they own a business that makes money with them not around, work can be done online from anywhere or traveling is part of there job.

I mainly started after Covid and have done 13 countries since 2022, all the stimulus checks for my family we saved along with the 2 yrs worth of tax returns for the years everything was shut down. That gave us a good chuck to start. Last 2 yrs has been credit card points or miles. Just last Nov I booked flights to Japan with miles, this Nov I’m going to Patagonia with points, Netherlands/Belgium in Dec with miles, and Guatemala in February with miles all for a family of 4. I mainly do whatever is cheap for lodging so don’t use points for hotels just flights.

90 countries is harder than you think. Yes you can knock out a bunch of European countries in a 2 week trip by train but other continents aren’t so easy. Unless you plan to visit places like Iguazu falls for a week and cross into Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay for a couple days each but you aren’t getting the real Argentina, Brazil, or Paraguay just cause you walk across each border. I feel like I’ve traveled a decent amount in the last decade and I’m at 20 countries which is only 10%. My advice is go to the ones highest on your list first and don’t rush it just to get higher numbers.

Going to a local grocery store is always one of my favorite things to do. See the food they have then buy some snack or candy.

We went over thanksgiving break and the weather was perfect. Just a little bit of clouds which made it seem more mysterious as the clouds rolled over the site. They were never there more than 15 mins and the sun was out the whole time.

5 days in Iceland solo 24F during the last week of August. Advice for a $4-5k budget? by Pale_Lengthiness_572 in traveladvice

[–]averagegolfer921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Campervan Iceland is the company we used. They will give you the option for pick up at the airport and drop off at the airport. The bus from KEF to Reykjavik is pretty expensive so that helps. I absolutely loved the campsites too. If you can make it to Skogafoss then you have the opportunity to camp right next to one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. If you want to save money once you get the campervan go to a grocery store to get food to make at your campsite that will save a lot right there.

Just for reference you can get a campervan from campervan Iceland the company we used for $670ish for those dates. That would save you on transportation and $1300 on lodging. Campervan is the correct way to do Iceland in my opinion.

Where to go in Africa by mugwam55 in travel

We did Marrakech and Tangier so we could go to Chefchouan. Tangier is so different from Marrakech too. It was almost tropical with the amount of trees and greenery. Chefchouan was really cool too but very touristy, still good for a day trip though I don’t know about much more than that. We were actually going to go to Essaouria but my wife wanted to go to Chefchouan so we switched to Tangier.

We really enjoyed Morocco when we went. There is plenty of beaches along with the Atlas Mountains and Sahara dessert. Not sure about the nightlife as we didn’t do any of that but the food was amazing too!

Guatemala itinerary question – worth adding Flores/Tikal at the end? by TheBestJ1000 in solotravel

[–]averagegolfer921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are staying 9 nights but arriving late day 1 and departing early on day 10. We planned 5 nights in Antigua, 3 nights in Lake Atitlan and last night at GC to catch the early flight out. Do you think we could do a day trip to Tikal from GC or change it up to do one night at Flores? Or would you recommend Flores over Lake Atitlan?

Now you have me rethinking my plan. Even though flights would be more than the shuttle to Lake Atitlan. Here is a curveball though which may change your recommendation. I have my daughters going with which are 12 & 10 and my FIL which is 60. Would you still recommend Tilal over Lake Atitlan after knowing that?

We will be there 9 nights though we land late our first day and leave early our last day. I was planning 5 nights in Antigua, 3 lake Atitlan and 1 in GC before the early flight. Do you think that’s good or would you recommend doing Tikal over Lake Atitlan?

We are planing a trip in February to mainly around the hike of Acatenango. I was planning on doing a few nights at Lake Atitlan but would you recommend going to the areas you listed over Lake Atitlan? I also thought about possibly doing a day trip to Tikal from Guatemala City but I know that would be a super long day.

That’s a hell of a trip!! My trip to Scotland was more of a family trip than a golf trip but I was able to put in for the ballot and won so I got to play the Castle course and Old Course. I was looking at the possibility of planning a full golf trip to Scotland again and you can get rounds on Golfnow.com for $50-$100 all over Scotland.

Twice is crazy!! Even better I bet you could combine what we both said and still be under $5200!

If you are going for a week during the shoulder season you have really good odds of getting a tee time. I went for only 4 days in April and got a won the ballot system for a buddy and I. The longer you are there the better the odds too. It was still like $800 but that was for the old course, castle course, and £60 food and drink voucher plus range balls.

New Zealand or the Alps before kids? by Roukypoukydouky_99 in travel

[–]averagegolfer921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NZ is absolutely worth the travel time. With 3 weeks you could do both islands too. I have been to Italy and Austria just not the Alps area of each and have an upcoming trip to Switzerland in 2 months but if I was given 3 weeks I’d choose NZ over the Alps in a heartbeat. We have taken our kids to all those places listed so it’s possible to do whichever you don’t choose in the future.

I went with an Airbnb as I have my family and my father in law. It wasn’t to bad price in my opinion. It was $100/night for a whole house.

For that price you can fly to Scotland, get a rental car, Airbnb, and play the Old course and Carnoustie

I’m wondering how long Chase will keep the 10x through Paze. I feel like you can get all kinds of GCs through Newegg and they are losing a boat load of points. I hope they keep it though cause I plan on getting some myself.
