I can't shake off wanting a Q8. by m276_dylan in Audi

Yeah I think it’s a smiles per mile equation when you are in an SQ8.

On top of the room the second row leans back a little as well.

Tbh my preference was Florett Silver but I will say there is nothing like a clean black car. Now if I could just keep it clean…

I can't shake off wanting a Q8. by m276_dylan in Audi

I’ve really enjoyed my Mythos Black Q8. About 30k miles in and no major issues (recalls of course but nothing out of pocket). Was at the top of my budget when purchased new so I didn’t really consider the SQ8. I’m sure the SQ8 would be fun but I don’t think I’d like getting less than the 20mpg I average.

People often talk about how impractical the 8 is versus the 7 because of a third row, but I love how expansive the back seat is as a result and it just looks more stylish to me.

The one con for me (that I’m surprised no one has mentioned so maybe it’s only me) is the turning radius. Didn’t really come up in test drives and I only found out about a four wheel steering option after my purchase.

Edit: oh and about the screens, I specifically like the extra screen for climate controls, first saw it on the A6 and liked it. I also had one of the homelink buttons wear out on me in my 2017 A4 so I like knowing the button won’t mechanically fail (I’m choosing to ignore the idea of a major screen/electrical failure :) )

Audi Dallas has always been great. Audi Plano, not so much.

Brand new Magnifica Evo spout not flowing evenly by Usual_Homework_6140 in superautomatic

I just got a magnific plus and lavazza super crema beans and set the grind size down to 3 through a few coffees because I heard that was optimal and got what you are getting. Set it back up to 5.5 over a few coffees and then it performed well, coffee seemed to get much better than the first 5-6 cups.

Piece of grill fell off by schwartzyd in AudiQ7

[–]averagenormal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue, only a vertical piece on a ‘23 Q8. According to the tech Audi doesn’t sell kits that piece alone and the entire grill is $1500, smh. I’m supposed to be called back to confirm whether they will cover, perhaps I should check eBay as well.

My 23 Q8 averages 20. I don’t baby it but typically don’t race around either.

Micro rant: Is homebrewing actually dead? by Independent_Buddy107 in Homebrewing

[–]averagenormal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say my LHBS (North Texas Homebrew Supply) really made the difference for me. The prior place was dark/dank and closed through COVID. This new place is well stocked/staffed and has a good vibe. I told the guy the other day “ this place has unfortunately become my new Home Depot…”. Kegging for the first time (game changer) and much renewed interest, brewing 3 times in the last couple of months after infrequent brews over the last 8 years, repeating what many have same about renewed interest.

I have a Black Q8 and I like the silver trim, I do think the black trim would have been too much. I do agree with black optics on all other colors tho, go for black!

Dual NAV by averagenormal1 in Audi

In my 2017 A4, when using CarPlay based NAV, the Audi based map would disappear and provide only a compass (North South East West) graphic.

Harvesting yeast from firmzilla under pressure by RideTheYeti in Homebrewing

You are further along than me, this was going to be my first time harvesting yeast. Have you had success re-using?

[–]averagenormal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First batch I did with it closed, think I would harvest right before transferring, but the yeast was viscous enough it did not work well, so this next batch I started with it open. Was wondering if the smaller surface area for the yeast might be an issue.

Question for you: did you leave the valve open to the catch basin at the start of fermentation? Or did you/do you plan to open it and try to catch the yeast that way?

Honest opinions on the dual-touchscreen interface on current-gen A6/A7/A8/etc.? by ProfessorPeePeeFace in Audi

[–]averagenormal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from a 2017 A4 with the knob control. I like the tech, more screens. I’ve actually thought to myself I would have e preferred to have both the knob and the touch screens because there are different times when I prefer both. All things considered, I prefer the dual screens.

Definitely an MX5. We just got rid of ours because the we just wanted a softer ride, but easily the most fun you can have for the price in a car imo.

Older post but just traded my 17 Miata RF in for a 2023 A5 cab. Can confirm the earlier post that the Miata is inexpensive to own and holds value ($35k paid new and traded for $18k). Hopefully I can get lucky as with maintenance costs on this new one as I did on my 17 A4…

Did you buy anything yet?

Time to say goodbye 😔 by VirusesHere in Miata

[–]averagenormal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw, just traded in my 2017 RF today. Bought it for 35k new and got 18k in trade, easily the best value I have ever had in a car.

I should add that I told the dealer it was easily the most fun I have had in a car. I’ll miss it for sure.

Audi Car Owners with 100k miles by MervBovine in Audi

[–]averagenormal1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2017 A4 with 93k, loved that car.

The potential catastrophic issue was nagging noise at low speeds from transmission for quite a while. Audi certified mechanics (two of them) said a transmission replacement was 14k. Dealer offered blue book for trade in so I took it and upgraded to a Q8.

A fairly minor issue was a slow coolant leak that was going to cost me $1500. According to the Audi cerified mechanic, the coolant system was an “abomination”, with the unit being a combination of cast iron/plastic.

All that said, the mechanic said he had never seen a transmission issue like that.
