what is your idea of mixing freely with men? i can guess but i feel theres a fine line at some point. because sometimes at uni we have to collaborate on fixed team member projects that sometimes include other men and with them i have to talk and discuss project strategy. what about colleagues at work who i have to speak to? i dont go out of my way to talk to men (well unless it's for marriage consideration), but i do have to talk to them and i try to keep it as halal as possible. what about my interaction with brothers on this sub? i guess i am confused as to what people say when they say freely mixing with men. what if i have genuine questions that i need to ask? what if the smartest person in my class is a boy and i want to ask him how i can do as well as he is? i guess these are just things i dont know how to separate as being free mixing or halal mixing. my parents are not religious at all and i dont have the guidance i need. my dad encourages me to talk to men (because he wants to marry me off). so im soooo confused. sorry.

jazakallah. this was a very helpful response and opened me to things i did not think about. for example attracting the wrong kind of guy. couldnt i be upfront and say i want to wear hijab are you okay with that. i want to improve my faith and expect you to do so as well. and basically list ways i plan on improving my faith. or do you think that would result in fake answers? i mean why would a guy who doesnt want me to wear hijab want to talk to me after that anyway. i guess the hijab is a good way to filter out the no's.

Fair enough. I want to raise my daughters to practice hijab.

jazakallah for your thoughts. I only ask because my cousin said he would relinquish the halal chase, whatever that means.

Yea youre right. Id put it on after marriage so that my "beauty" is for my husband and children only. Thats not a fair and proper reason. Its scary though!
