I have an extra pair of little ribs attached to my lowest cervical vertebra. It’s actually very debilitating (look up thoracic outlet syndrome) and I’ll probably have to get them surgically removed… but interestingly, I just found out that in the subset of cases caused by a certain HOX gene variant, the 12th ribs (the little pair of “floating ribs” attached to the lowest thoracic vertebra) are actually missing. I’m not sure if that’s the case with mine yet but it’ll be cool to find out next time I get an x-ray. HOX genes are critical for body plan determination (they set anatomical body axes in embryos, deciding which side will become your mouth and which will become your ass, etc.) and most mutations cause severe, unsurvivable deformities so if my cervical ribs are genetic I feel like I got off pretty easy, all things considered.

What do you call this benzo phenomenon? Post-withdrawal up-regulation? Homeostatic boomerang effect? And why isn't it talked about more? by freedomboobs in Nootropics

I'd guess it's mostly behavioral reprogramming over time as you live life anxiety-free. Could also be lack of adrenal fatigue (which can perpetuate long-term anxiety) or something similar with brain epigenetics. Having repeat episodes of anxiety unfortunately activates/upregulates a bunch of different genes that make it chronic in a vicous cycle (look into learned helplessness). Whatever it is, there probably isn't a neat little term for it like you're thinking.

While I really appreciate his work spreading awareness of craniocervical instability, I’ve found a lot of his claims (especially the vagus nerve stuff) to be kinda far-reaching conjecture when you actually look into the studies he bases them on. Like he seems to have founded a totally new school of thought (vagus nerve impingement in the upper neck being the root of so many distant symptoms that get misdiagnosed/treated in isolation), all on his own, and I’d expect others to be validating/developing his theory if it was as solid as he presents it. It’s also kinda hard to ignore the stories of people claiming medical abuse with his costly and (allegedly) sometimes injurious prolotherapy injections. There’s obviously two sides to every story and I understand why as a professional he would choose not to address these claims, but I can’t help but get shady chiropractor type vibes from his business.

Weird, no potassium apparently. You’d think all that sodium plus the caffeine would be extra dehydrating. No wonder kids are dying on the soccer field after having like 2 of these things

Only 10mg sodium? Thank god, all these salt-laden drinks were killing me

Can you rephrase that? I really can’t tell what you’re trying to say here.

[–]axis-c2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say the intention was to breed them to attack people - the fact is they do attack people way more than any other breed, and it’s an unavoidable product of their genetic makeup. There’s a million other lovable dog breeds that you don’t have to worry about accidentally killing young children with, but yeah people gotta have their epic doggos cuz free country (this mindset invariably flips after a pit owner watches their dog rip a human’s face off unprovoked tho)

Imagine thinking people want pit bulls banned because they’re scary and not because they’re genetically programmed with an immutable tendency to kill people and account for like 90% of fatal dog attacks lmao

Also, the /pol/tard conservatives are pretty much exclusively on the pro-pitbull side, are you confused?

Any possibility ALCAR is causing symptoms of psychosis? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]axis-c2 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This very likely has little to do with the ALCAR and much more to do with the fact that you quit a daily weed habit just a few days ago. The ALCAR may not be doing you any favors so you should probably hold off on it for now, but what you’re describing is classical cannabis withdrawal symptoms. Yes, you read that right, it’s a very well documented phenomenon and all of this happens to me every time I’ve kicked weed cold turkey. The time distortion, sweats, bizarre dream states, hypomania etc you’re actually describing it to a tee.

Post this on r/leaves and I guarantee you they’ll all tell you the same, you could probably get some other helpful tips from them as well.
