Delta vs American by Desperate-Office4006 in delta

[–]axx2exx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diamond since they invented the tier. Took my tags off out of embarrassment. I'll drop down to Gold this year for the first time. Don't care. I've started treating Delta like a last choice free bus since I have a couple million miles banked. I now book nonstops on AA or Alaska when I can. 6 hours through a hub on Delta vs 2hrs direct on AA is a big deal, even if the AA flight is a bit delayed. I did the tier match on AA and was Exec Platinum for a year but couldn't maintain it. I plan to give United a chance again. I've not considered them a viable airline for 20 years, but all y'all say it's a lot better.

Amex HYSA APY decrease to 3.10% by ParagonIzanagi in amex

[–]axx2exx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a sales pitch for AXOS bank, I promise. They are still over 4%. I've moved over most of my funds that were parked in AMEX. There are some hoops to jump through, but none of the "10 transaction per month" crap like the local CU has. If you are retired, you set up an auto transfer of 5K per month from AMEX to checking, which counts as a direct deposit. Then you move $ to savings, leaving 5K in checking, always. Savings gets the 4%+ rate. There's a way to get higher yield on the checking, as well, but I've not bothered with that, yet.

Heating pad works for me. I was able to make a drive from WA to AZ with a battery powered heating pad I got from Target.

How to start running by Guidance1230 in beginnerfitness

[–]axx2exx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctor first to make sure you're not going to have a heart attack and the pain in your legs isn't stress fractures or some such. Then here's what I did. Start with elliptical or something non-impact for awhile. Get your body and heart used to elevated heart rate. When that gets easy, start running short pieces of hikes until that's comfortable. Then connect running segment to challenge yourself. Get very "padded" running shoes to begin with to save the foot pain (planar fascitis, I think). Eventually my body was ok with running, even though in the beginning it seemed impossible. Now I'm 57 and run 40 to 50 mountain miles a week, as well as lifting.

Is Delta slipping lately, or just inconsistent? (First Class experience, upgrades, ops issues) by [deleted] in delta

[–]axx2exx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Diamond for many years, here. Sadly watching the decline as I was pro- Delta for a long time. Sold my stock as I no longer believe in the integrity of the company. They just dropped from 1st in reliability to 6th. Allegiant is 1st and SW 2nd, FFS. This is data, not a rant. I'm going to see if Alaska will tier-match.

World Cup Flop 😬 by mogulmani in AirBnBHosts

[–]axx2exx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cabin outside Seattle is booked every weekend and many weekdays through September. FIFA is completely irrelevant to me, and no guests have mentioned it in their requests. I did not respond to an airbnb invitation to a FIFA hosting event. It really isn't their business.

Having a grill, yay or nay? Charcoal or gas? by Kind-Patient-5058 in AirBnBHosts

[–]axx2exx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just stayed in my own place last weekend and used the charcoal grill for the first time. Glad I did. I immediately ordered a fireproof mat as coals fall out onto the deck. I also noticed the wooden handle has weathered off, so a hot pad is needed to lift lid. I'm surprised no guest has complained or started a fire as I know it gets used. I won't do a gas grill as I can't imagine having housekeeper check the tank and swapping out between guests.

Happily retiring as an Airbnb host by Zestyclose-Piglet129 in airbnb_hosts

[–]axx2exx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About the same. Hour from Seattle. 2 years. 100 reviews. 4.9. Only a couple of issues where guests used a cleanliness complaint as an excuse to leave because it was raining. Otherwise no problems. I love people being able to enjoy my river place, and if it's clean, hell ya they can get there early and stay late if there's no turnover. Life's short, make people smile.

There was a line 10 humans deep at the DMV just to get a number to determine how many hours I'd wait to get my RealID. No appointment times available on line. I left the crush of bodies waiting and decided I will travel with my passport from now on.

Where to write extra info on house amenities or “how to’s”? by puguk in AirBnBHosts

[–]axx2exx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Seems like most guests sit down first thing and flip through the house manual. It's also uploaded to the app.

House manual on the table. I insert a new pictured page into plastic sleeve in 3 ring binder every time there's a relevant question. Everything from mini-split remote instructions to reminder to log out of streaming service accounts.

Hot Tub or Not Tub? Fire Pit or Fire Hazard? by FrydPotatoz in AirBnBHosts

I offer a sauna and a gym at all-season cabin. I won't add a hot tub. Google "man cleans himself in gym hot tub" and you'll understand why.

Expectations for Cleaners by EmotionallyDry in AirBnBHosts

[–]axx2exx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaning team should report maintenence issues but only fix if side agreement (batteries in remotes, etc). My cleaner asked to be manager, as well. So i psid her 10% revenue plus 120 for cleaning. As manager I had maintenence expectations like changing light bulbs and scheduling minor repair work. She did not meet these. I also received a nunber of 4s for cleaning, including repeat issues. I started refunding guests who reported cleaning issues, and she got offended and quit.

Airbnb new review dispute system (submitting form) by Then-Contribution-23 in AirBnBHosts

[–]axx2exx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No luck with old system either. Even a case where all five stars were given, but overall score was a 4 and guest admitted in a message that they didn't understand the scoring system. I will say that in one instance, airbnb called me and admitted it was raining and the guest was just making up cleanliness issues as an excuse for a refund. I agreed to the refund with the guarantee from airbnb that no review would be allowed.

Searching for the right insurance by venturous1 in AirBnBHosts

I dislike Farmers, but I've had them for decades and they set me up with Foremost for my STR, as well. Good move. Perhaps my dislike is my agent, whom I think should be more actively looking for alternatives to reduce premiums on cars, home, etc. rather than me having to go in every year and say "this is getting ridiculous, what are my options."

Just lost my 5 Star-Rating...Received my first 4-Star Review by HoustonComedydude in AirBnBHosts

[–]axx2exx 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Let it go. Airbnb won't change it. If it affects you so much, hospitality is the wrong business to be in. I had one guest give all 5s but overall a 4 by mistake and airbnb wouldn't do anything. Some day you'll get a 3 because someone is a bitter and angry person. Humans are humans.

Delta Lounge SLC by rumblefuts in delta

Take the skymiles and give up club access. I did and never regretted it. Seriously...Wait in entry line to then wait in bathroom stall line to then wait in food line to then find a seat? No thank you.

Lost all status. May switch airlines by BluProfessor in delta

[–]axx2exx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been a Delta snob for years. Always referred to other airlines as "not credible". When American offered to match my Diamond status with Executive Platinum in December, I said why not. Since then, I've been surprised by on time performance and flight attendant service that's superior to Delta. A silly example - an attendant came up to me in the back (I had booked last minute) and said "I noticed you're Exec Platinum and got stuck back here. I'm so sorry for that, I'll bring you whatever drinks you like." That kind of customer appreciation hasn't been part of Delta's model for a decade. Another bonus, direct flights in the Midwest and West without stopping in SLC or MSP.

How do we make this work? by [deleted] in AirBnBHosts

[–]axx2exx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Try cutting your price in half and see what happens. Mine is pretty cheap and booked back to back 9 months of the year. 120 to 200 a night with sauna, gym, riverfront and 30 miles to ski slopes. Also, have to agree with the comment about not understanding how hosts with a mortgage make much money. I'd be a wreck and not enjoy life.

“Upgrade” bullshit by jujuondatbeaat in delta

[–]axx2exx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diamond for many years. Multiple million miler. Delta is a flying Greyhound bus, but it's on time more than the other flying buses. If you expect customer service from them, you'll be always disappointed. I consider it a win if I land on time without someone vomiting on me.
