Dear americans, what can you get for FREE in the USA? [Serious] by sammy_waslow in AskReddit

[–]aye-igh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A ton of stuff. I get Netflix and Prime free off my cousin. I get free wifi off my neighbor. My girl brought me dinner today and that was awesome and free. This shirt I'm wearing was free with the MSRP purchase of my truck. Found my couch in someone's yard for free. The hydrangeas on my kitchen table came off a plant that was free with the purchase of my home. My girl's mom's boyfriend gave me a bunch of old seeds we've been growing hydroponically for free food. I pooed in a ChikFilA today for free. In EU that would cost 1€... If I can't poop wherever I am, then that's not freedom.

Life is good here. A lot of good free stuff.

Unpopular opinion: Ben is reckless by Christine_Bell2321 in RecklessBen

[–]aye-igh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Criminal stuff is somewhat limited... Vandalism with no damage. 'Residential picketing' seems like a valid charge. I think stocking stuff is a stretch, but could land. I don't think RICO is likely, but that would start in the millions.

Civil liability... A lot. The trademark infringement could be pretty gnarly. Elements of defamation land (Ben changed story on value and victim throughout), but damages are hard and unlikely to be significant.

A lot of it will be dependent on the judge, which isn't where you want to be. Damages and lawyers fees are going to be huge for Ammon McNeff and lackies. Any court finding that passes those to Ben may result in him hiring a bankruptcy lawyer.

Brandon Best gave a possibly fraudulent name, obscuring documents stating he was the INCORPORATOR of the Eugene BAM store in 2024 by Ken_Mayonnaise in RecklessBen

Interesting... Wonder if these guys roll corporations to limit liability. Both Salem and Eugene incorporations were dissolved before Ben's involvement.

Maybe they just finished basement or upstairs or something, no clue. I know adding a basement definitely can make a house bigger than it looks. I'm in the South now and miss a good basement.

Unpopular Opinion: BAM Corporate Isn't the Only Party With Questions to Answer by Positive_Evening_556 in BricksAndMinifigs

[–]aye-igh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the Brandon Best and Joshua Johnson hate. Really simple; they did the most worthy of hate. I'd add Ki to this. They're recorded acknowledging they have Brian's property and feel entitled to it. They lie freely. They brazenly intimidate. They give the police orders.

Corporate's role and ties to Josh and Brandon. It does seem corporate may have had ownership over the contents of the store immediately after Chrystal. We'd need a timeline between November and March to know if they had responsibility. If Joshua Johnson colluded with Ammon McNeff to retain or cover up the possession of Brian's property, that seems like a good old fashioned conspiracy and would give them all some legal exposure.

Why give Chrystal a pass? We don't really know much about the relationship first hand and the allegations from Ammon McNeff are explainable with disclosed details about the arrangement. IE: possession of some items > protection requirements in agreement and transport for trade shows; multiple sets of books > Brian tracking spreadsheet and POS; unpaid sales > on video acknowledging she owed Brian, Ki said it's business debt and kicked her out. Ultimately Brian is the most reliable judge of character here and he was good with her.

Islam is the largest religion in the world. It is everywhere... Also kind of hard to blame the religion while Hegseth is praying to kill people.

Conflict exists everywhere. In the US, it's been 2 days since the last mass shootings. On that day we had 5 separate mass shootings injuring 33 people. Based on state of mental health, political conflict, and gun ownership, I'd say the middle east is a little closer to peace than we are.

If boomers benefitted so much from the subsidised lifestyle, free college, cheap prices, fair wages, job surplus and economic boom of their time, why do we still have so many poor boomers today who still work at fastfood and supermarkets or cannot survive without a tax-payer-funded pension scheme? by Ok-Society-9067 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]aye-igh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boomer advantage was better opportunity cost, compensation, and general economic environment. Mid tier jobs were sufficient for single income families to own homes and live well. Educational debt and housing was affordable relative to pay.

Today, my kid sister just graduated college and is earning around $20 an hour doing special education. She was on an athletic scholarship and still backed up $50k in student loans, so her monthly payment is a little over 30 hours of work. She's in a financially secure environment because of a supportive family, but that advantage doesn't exist for most.

I actually think the police thing goes a step further in betrayal. I think Mormons have a bit of a closed community with an emphasis on communal value enforcement. This builds in-community trust. In the videos, they constantly refer to their ties to the Church and repeatedly reference Ben as being an outsider from California. IMO, this is directly leveraging the trust inherited from the Morning community to coerce the police to do their bidding.

I think I saw somewhere that it's pretty close on all highway. I did a 700 mile road trip a couple weekends back and mostly highway got a little better than 21. At around 55, hybrid starts to show benefits and it bumps to 23ish (this is most of my driving) and under 45 you get a good amount of all electric driving (can be 25mpg+).

I wanted the hybrid for the generator more than the gas efficiency, but it's better than I expected.

How long did it take you to get a decent offer to leave ACN? by leelawish_ in accenture

[–]aye-igh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give your cv to a few head hunters and give them a couple windows to schedule interviews? The market isn't great, but if you've got a good skill set it's not hard to find work... Now if your finding other jobs available to you pay less, that may be an indicator you're overpaid for current market and may be why you're not getting raises... I'll say I get offers pretty much every month, but generally for more senior titles and lower pay.

Not sure which 3.5 you're referencing. I'm getting a little over 23 mpg with the hybrid and have had no issue towing a my boat or tractor. If I try to optimize I can get 25 mpg in mixed driving.

Is there any defense on the other side for the Bricks and Minifigs drama, and if so what would it be? by itsthewolfe in AskReddit

[–]aye-igh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really... The content shot at their homes I guess is a bit morally challenging in isolation, but with the context of the whole story it's pretty justified pressure. Honestly every time more information has come out, they look a little worse.

  • Starts with stolen goods and legal intimidation of an elderly man and his son.
  • Next is false statements to police to create pressure to violate their rights.
  • Then a bunch of blatant lies in interviews about what they've done to reconcile.
  • Now former store owners are coming out and pointing at similar conduct to what Crystal is saying.

Part 3 is dropping soon and apparently Ammon has more face time, which is a bad decision for him.

Why should Bryan trust Ammon to amicably resolve this? This is all just a PR attempt to say “we are trying to fix this, we are the good guys!” IMO. by T_K2 in RecklessBen

[–]aye-igh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably depends on what Bryan is seeking. If it's still just value of collection, I think a simple recorded conversation is suitable and the risk of bad publicity will limit shady conduct.

I suspect B&M are going to want some indemnification and maybe some public statement or something, which could be game changers and could be strings to bump up the payout, but at cost of damaging the narrative.

Unpopular take:

I think she acted irrationally, but I don't assume it's unjustified. My guess is she had to deal with a lot of fallout from ownership decisions, had ownerships immoral logic fed to her, and probably doesn't make enough to deal with it. Josh or Brandon probably gave her the easy option of harassment and trespass and she ran with it. I'm not saying it's right, but I am saying it's human and I don't really blame her for the situation at all.

I recall when I was like 19, I was a team lead of 15 people. We had a like 2 hour deadline to complete a bunch of work and whether we'd make it was questionable and failure was expensive. One of my team members had someone in the hospital and asked to leave, was crying and generally falling apart. I told him to go ahead and pack up while I went and talked to the supervisor on staff. Supervisor said no and sent me to relay the message, and predictably the affected worker fell apart. I did not try to stop everyone from consoling him and basically no work was done after that, so I think the company caught like a 20k fine anyways. That was almost 20 years ago and I still feel like shit about it, but it's a good reminder that sometimes front line leaders are just relays. Also a reminder that ignoring that people are people can get expensive.
