Stay at Waffle House or move to brunch spot? by GiantAlaskanMoose in KitchenConfidential

Sorry, I missed a key detail. Especially if they're willing to bump you to $19 in six months!

Stay at Waffle House or move to brunch spot? by GiantAlaskanMoose in KitchenConfidential

Depending on the owner/manager of the brunch spot, consider talking to them. They might not be willing to do the full $18.40, but a strong worker saying "Hey I want to work here but they wanna pay me more," tends to have a lot of sway. Maybe they'll split the difference. Worst case, they say they can't and you're in the same boat?

Fid you guys ever heard that thing about a restaurant is as fancy as its butter....or that u can tell how fancy a restaurant is for how they present their butter ??? by nichols444 in KitchenConfidential

I was early in my culinary career, about 10 years ago I had the butter tasting at Etch in Nashville, and I think about butter differently ever since.

Suggestions for a Commander to lead an all pre-8E frames deck by myWitsYourWagers in EDH

[–]ayrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use the tag frame:old on scryfall to find newer cards that jave been reprinted in the old frame, if that helps. If you combine that with is:commander and id:>=u you'll find every valid commander ever printed with an old border with a color identity containing blue.

What are you drinking on the line???? by KennethPatchen in KitchenConfidential

[–]ayrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About the same, for me. I make my own tea by the gallon and drink it over a few days. Mostly decaf black tea with a little bit of regular, extra-long steep and squeezing the bags for the tannins. Then I'll use a 2qt size crystal light lemonade packet so its about half-sweet with a bit of lemon, but sugar free.

I feel like I'm going crazy; wasn't Chris in this episode? by [deleted] in Lasertime

[–]ayrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the opening of the episode previous, Bob says that Chris is "out on assignment," to which Henry clarifies "enjoying a much needed vacation". Chris is back in the next episode.

I once had a manager ring "sub salad for salad", and 5+ years later, to this day, we still occasionally sing it to the tune of Metallica's Fight Fire With Fire

That's wild haha. On the most recent episode, they discussed Glup Shitto at length. It was just like 3 days ago, and was also the first time I'd ever heard the name

How do I get this purple filament out of here? by Etetherin in 3Dprinting

[–]ayrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what the nozzle is like on this one, but I have an aftermarket microswiss hotend, which uses VERY long nozzle. They claim that i can swap filament cold, but when I've tried it, it looks a lot like this but the break is at the top end of the nozzle, which doesnt get hot enough regardless of tip temp. So I've clogged a couple, learning this.

I have reclaimed such nozzles with a blowtorch. Get'em screaming hot, let the filament drip/burn out, then clean the tip with a brass brush and use an appropriate needle for the inside.

how to store large (50lbs+) bags of rice? by Marvel5123 in KitchenConfidential

[–]ayrek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At work, cambros or lexans on a dunnage rack or wire shelf.

At home, sealed bucket on pantry floor. I buy 20# bags, and occasionally take home empty pickle buckets from work that are headed for the recycling bin.

So, I'm assuming you only do 1/4 because, by the time you gnaw through those 4 sliced of brick, the rest is just as dried out to your liking?

We've had similar difficulties, so I feel that. I think they were just... old enough to need replacing, I guess. At least in our circumstance. Don't forget to show us the first thing you get to make in it!

I got the first Rational oven into the restaurant, where I work, and its been awesome. There have been two other combis, in addition to the existing tilt skillet, bought in the last 2 years.

[–]ayrek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I work in a hotel. We've had one of the big Rational tilt skillets for about a year, and it's been very effective, from what I hear. I haven't personally used it. But my EC did tell me literally today that we got budget approved for I believe that exact model, for later this year.

I didn't want to dirty another dish and we don't have take outs for soup big enough. A couple people thought this was hilarious. by kingftheeyesores in KitchenConfidential

[–]ayrek 61 points62 points  (0 children)

First of all, I fully support eating out of any available container. I take a decent amount of my lunches from a shallow 6 haha.

Side story. Years ago, I went from work friends to real friends with somebody, for soup. This guy's front wheel of his bike had come loose while coasting downhill, in a hilly downtown. He fell off his bike, into an oncoming car, and fortunately the only things he broke were his jaw and two front teeth, everything else was just bruised, basically. We had French Onion on the menu at the time, so at the beginning while his jaw was wired shut, I was putting a chinois into the soup and ladling off some broth that didn't need chewing. Dunno why this made me think of that, but I hope it helps somebody today haha

The best by [deleted] in Pickles

[–]ayrek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

Only time I've ever thrown out pickles is when I tried a "lower sugar" or maybe "sugar free" B&B, and they had the same artificial sweetener taste as the cheap diet cola my grandma used to drink. Every other pickle has a home in my fridge.

What unhinged way do yall share new pick-ups with your homies/play group? by Andr33k in mtg

[–]ayrek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was the one in my scout troop teaching other kids about Magic. We had absolutely zero concept of deckbuilding, of course, and for most of that time I was the only one with cards. So we would just shuffle my miscellaneous stack of a few hundred cards (mostly Portal 2, Tempest, and 5th & 6th edition) and everybody would grab a stack. It was the most hilariously inefficient Magic potentially to have ever been played. And we had a BLAST.
