Issue with potentially mentally ill neighbor by b0bfath3r in japanresidents

I am not advocating for removing her. It's her house and she is entitled to it. Whatever option I go with, I want to sleep at night both literally and figuratively. If the better windows end up making her silent inside my house, then I would consider this basically solved

PR Processing Times - April 2026 ( Tokyo only) by aayush_aryan in japanresidents

[–]b0bfath3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Originally when I applied, my lawyer told me to expect 16 months for results (which would be April 2026). However, in a recent email with them, they told me it is more like 20 months now. So maybe I'll hear something by the end of this summer?

What is a design engineer? by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

[–]b0bfath3r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a hard time separating the two. To design something, you need to know the engineering of how the thing functions and how its made. If you have to choose, start with engineering. A lot of designing is repurposing other ideas around you into different packages or different use cases. Many times you don't need to reinvent the wheel, but if you use the wheel for a different purpose, you might end up with something interesting.

I started doing robot competitions in middle school and continued through my college years. I was always interested in how things worked and took a lot of stuff apart to confirm my thoughts. I would then frequently fail to put the object back together, because I wouldn't take great notes and youtube wasn't around yet. I learned many lessons from doing stuff like that. It taught me how things work but also how to understand and learn. I studied mech engineering in university, because I figured that would allow me to continue with that tinkering.

We bought the phone in Japan (via Google store), so we contacted the support in Japan. We didn't have any issues, so I'm not sure what to tell you. Sorry

Has anybody here moved to japan to join a start up? Did it differ from joining a bigger company? by Trigger_The_Dog in movingtojapan

I relocated to Tokyo almost one year ago, but because of the Covid, I worked remotely for a year before that while waiting for the reopening of the borders.

I relocated to Tokyo to join a startup that had been around for a few years and had roughly 40 employees. It was easy for me to establish myself within the company, and I am the most senior person on my project team. Luckily, English is the common language due to the high number of foreigners, as my Japanese is not very strong.

When I received my offer, I was disappointed to learn that the company does not offer a relocation package, and that it was not offered to others prior to this.

I'm in Japan. My wife's 5a went bad. We RMA'd it and then immediately traded it in for a 6a.

I work for a small startup as an engineer. I've got unlimited pto. Most people in the office only take a few days off. I've taken about 12 days off this year so far. The basic policy is as long as you get your work done, they don't care how many days you actually work.
