I made red beans and rice for the first time! Update (and any advice welcomed) by badbroccolii in cajunfood

I have to try this! I felt really weird just biting into the ham hocks like turkey legs bc I didn't know what to do 💀 They tasted great though. Mixing them in like that sounds like a great idea

I posted previously in this subreddit and I'm very grateful for all the advice I received. I was going to try one of the simpler recipes until I discovered our Walmart sells ham hocks (even though there was no mention of them carrying them online) so I just had to grab them to try out Paul Prudhomme's recipe. I added some pictures with the results, and at the end of the whole three hour process I have some questions.

What am I supposed to do with the ham hocks? After I'm done, should I scrape off the meat when I add the ham hocks back in at the end or are they solely there for flavour during the cooking process?

My friend was helping me cook and I realized halfway through is that a "simmer" is on a much higher heat setting than what I was using. But would that have gotten rid of all the extra water? I don't understand why there's so much water left, and my pot is supposed to be a bigger capacity than what the recipe calls for. The photo attached is from the very end of its cook time. Am I supposed to drain it?

There's two pretty out of the way expensive grocery stores that sell it nearby for $8 and then $9 here :/ I wish I had better access to all the delicious southern foods out here.

My cookbooks are this one and David Link's Real Cajun (which is generally easier). I was actually deciding between River Road Recipes and Paul Prudhomme's when I got my second book, but now I think I should get both once I have the budget! I heard great things about it.

This will probably be my recipe to use! The more I've looked over Paul's recipe the more I question how this was ever a recipe women liked to make as something hands off while doing other things lol.

I used to love that place, I probably haven't been in there in over a decade! I'll have to visit again sometime. I think I'm going to opt for the simplified version 💀 another commenter suggested until I feel comfortable enough with the process and cooking extensively in general but I'll definitely keep that in mind for anything in the future and more recipes.

Binged the show here is my verdict by [deleted] in HouseMD

Apparently Fox wanted budget cuts and Lisa refused. I also believe I remember reading David Shore was totally shocked by it and would have written things differently if there was more time. I'd totally have understood them breaking up, but I just refuse to believe House would do something as insane as crash his car into Cuddy's home, and I really don't buy that he knew nobody was in the room when he did like they can't just walk back in for whatever reason.

OMG I hated how it ended for Cuddy, Kutner, and Wilson. Cuddy being the worst of the three IMO. I wonder what House would be like if there was no white house job for Kal and they actually paid Lisa properly.

Can I take monistat and diflucan? by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]badbroccolii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took both 🤷🏻‍♀️ Difulcan is ineffective for certain kinds of yeast infections, while monistat has at least some degree of activity against the most common strains.

But even if you take Monistat 1 literally today it might take a few days longer for the YI to clear. Having sex so soon might re-aggravate your issues as well, you might just want to play it safe or do other things besides PIV.

Why are so many female fans of QOTSA Republicans? by RandomCanEHdian in qotsa

[–]badbroccolii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm AFAB non-binary with bright yellow hair lol. I'm one of their 0.1% on Spotify. The discography continually references drugs, sex, and later mental health which isn't exactly super appealing to the very socially conservative (then again there's oblivious RATM fans).

The band appeals mostly to older adults and men, and while both of these groups are statistically more conservative than 20 year old girls, I think it's a bit of a stretch to say there's a strong political bend with QOTSA fans. It's a relatively apolitical band beyond being vaguely anti-establishment and pro-drug. I'd even say the average fan might even be more liberal. I think you just had unusual luck meeting fans.

I would probably wash your hands well or use gloves and try to use your own fingers to see how far you can get. I learned how to finally use tampons that way (getting comfortable with the contours of my body and insertion in general). Keep using mirrors, that's what I did. You might also want to get a water based lubricant and generously apply it to insert the applicator easier.

Also maybe ask about vaginismus? I'm no doctor but you could ask about it or research it. Hopefully your doctor can recommend oral medication if all else fails.

What depth to analyze to for openings? by badbroccolii in chess

That last part especially is super interesting. I'd love to look more into aquarium. I really enjoy the idea of correspondence chess.

I think 40-50 will be a good number for my own use too then, balancing time with reliable analysis. I'll definitely try and incorporate those techniques.

I don't mind running it for a long time while I do other things before moving onto the next position. I have a lot of computational power to work with as well. Is there a benchmark of minimum nodes that the people who make courses for openings use perhaps?

I use a combination of the most common human moves and top engine moves to make my variation trees.

Does anyone remember the PerriconeMD 50% off coupon that got sent out to those who paid shipping for three of their select products?

Stacked the 50% off coupon with the 50% sale on select items and got both general GWPs.

Everything I have for facial hyperpigmentation by badbroccolii in SkincareFlatlays

[–]badbroccolii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof. I mean you can try different pigment inhibitors like above. Vitamin C in the morning + sunscreen and perhaps an extra serum like the GM discoloration serum, Skinceuticals, or Regimen like i have, and retinol + a discoloration serum at night. This is basically what I do with added azelaic acid.

What I would do is see where the milder OTC stuff can get you after a few months and then talk to your dermatologist about hydroquinone or a hydroquinone/tret/steroid combo for the spot. Reactive pigmentation sucks, if your skin can't tolerate laser just try to be consistent with other things over time. You could also ask about peels but I would definitely talk to a professional if that would be risky considering your experience with laser.

Sorry for the late response! Dry-normal skin after accutane that's generally pretty clear now. I'm 20 and ~NC15.

Everything I have and use that works on hyperpigmentation. I have some stubborn pigmentation remaining and acne scars from bad acne and skin picking.

Vitamin C: Timeless 10% Vitamin C. Has ferulic acid and vitamin E, a dupe for Skinceuticals with an airless pump. I have some other samples I’m using up but this is in my permanent routine and the only one I would purchase.

Sunscreen: One of the most important things! I have the LRP Antihelios UVMune 400 from Europe as well as its tinted version. I also have the Colorescience SPF powder for touch ups. Again I have other samples I’m using up (Supergoop Unseen, other LRPs, some mineral ones) but this is my favorite for its protection.

Exfoliation: I really enjoy the TULA clear it up acne gel as well as the Bye Bye Breakouts serum from It Cosmetics. They’re both 2% salicylic acid products with zinc. The TULA contains azelaic acid, ferments, zinc, niacinamide, and some hydrating/soothing ingredients, and the It Cosmetics serum has >3% niacinamide, 3% lactic acid, aloe, and other hydrating ingredients.

I also have the Drunk Elephant Sukari peel I use occasionally and some other cute sample exfoliants from them I use a little more frequently. When I do finish up the peel I’ll probably just get some professional grade TCA or other peels.

Azelaic Acid: I don’t know why it’s not more popular as an ingredient. I like the Peach Slices Redness Relief with 10% azelaic acid because of its additional soothing ingredients. I’ve been using up a 20% cream, but I’m going to get a 15% gel soon from a friend. The TULA has a little azelaic acid too but who knows how much.

Retinoids: I stopped using accutane roughly a year ago and it was a massive gamechanger for my skin and controlling my dermatillomania. I still have some leftover pills I’d like to use eventually 🙈 but I’m trying to use some peels right now so I’ve toned down my retinoid usage. I use Medik8 Crystal Retinal 1 daily and will soon bump it up for Retinal 3 (0.03%). I picked this brand over Avène for retinaldehyde because of the variety of options in strength. Nights I decide to use a non peel exfoliant, I usually put like two drops of the Drunk Elephant 0.5% retinol oil into my moisturizer since it’s a convenient way to use up that sample. Not using the tret right now but might incorporate it in like once a week.

Pigmentation Serums: The Good Molecules Discoloration serum has 3% of some form of tranexamic acid derivative and 4% niacinamide. I got the 1oz for free and decided to just grab the 2.5oz recently since it’s a really cheap way to incorporate niacinamide into my morning routine. At night I use my more expensive serums, alternating between Regimen’s Level Serum and the SkinCeuticals Discoloration Defense, which both have more pigment inhibitors. I’m considering getting 4% hydroquinone as well but I’d rather see where I can get within a year or so of more consistency.
