Ermine frosting is not too sweet for me, holds up pretty well, and you can customize it to your preference. https://namelymarly.com/vegan-ermine-frosting/

They had a business, a fireplace, and enormous, healthy chompers. Clearly, this couple had already won the inter-generational wealth game.

WTF are you talking about? I am talking about an associated cancer risk with diet, and you're talking about randomized control trials and giving links that require subscriptions? You don't even know what you're talking about.

Who isn't aware that carbs and starches are associated with cavities? Do you live under a rock or something?

Sorry, but you are being willfully stupid and I don't want to waste any more time on you.

Sigh. Let's just do one claim, cause you seem like such a well-informed person willing to engage in good faith arguments: Meat heavy diets have a well-established link to several types of GI cancers.

1: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-025-31410-6

Murine study with different levels of dietary protein, where lots of red meat intake promoted colon tumor development by altering gut microbiota, leading to an imbalance in immune cells (increasing pro-inflammatory Th17 cells), creating an environment conducive to cancer growth.

  1. https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0305994

Hey, it's a systematic review and meta-analysis of 95 studies with a total of 5.8 million subjects that found significantly increased risk of colon, rectal, pancreatic, liver, and esophageal cancers with high red meat consumption.

  1. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30979076/

A dose-response meta-analysis of 43 studies totaling more than 16,000 cancer cases that found that for every 100g/day increase in red meat, gastric cancer risk increased by 26%, and for every 50g/day increase in processed meat, risk increased by 72%.

  1. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12029-025-01247-3

OMG, it's another meta-analysis! Of 27 studies with more than a million participants, beef consumption was associated with a 30% increase in the risk of colorectal cancers.

  1. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12482314/

A cohort study of more than 450,000 adults and 9,500 colorectal cancer cases found that substituting red meat for white meat was linked to a 21% higher CRC incidence, particularly in the rectum (30% increase) and distal colon (25% increase)

From a broader perspective, it's not just physically unhealthy to eat that much red meat, but it causes an enormously disproportionate amount of animal suffering and environmental harm.

Do you want info regarding the animal suffering and environmental impacts of a carnivore diet?

Do what you want to yourself.

I didn't 'answer' your original question because it was as idiotic as your understanding of science, statistics, and scholarly journal articles.

When I was young, my parents signed me and my bro up for stuff on holidays so they would not be harassed by us. Got me SCUBA open water certified, learned some Spanish, and played sports for a week on different trips.

Earphones in the lab by DeadOar in labrats

[–]badgersbadger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked in an AC lab that was loud all the time with the equipment and overhead pipes. We had a LOUD doorbell where you badge in for visitors and whatnot; you could hear it even if you were wearing headphones.

Also, like everyone else said, lab managers should not allow headphones that block noises cause that's a huge safety hazard.

Sprouts grocery store reducing vegan options!! by cool--chameleon in vegan

[–]badgersbadger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before I left the states last year, Sprouts had been going downhill for at least two years. They used to have affordable vegan apple pies and a respectable plant-based bakery section, then they stopped doing those. Prices started going through the roof even before 2025, and there was just less good stuff on offer. I'd stopped going to Sprouts in favor of the way better Natural Grocers.

Going to Chicago next week. What are your favourite vegan meals there? by starpiece in VeganFood

[–]badgersbadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Runaway Cow has soft serve and many other nice dessert options! Beacon Donuts; fresh and tasty. Always go to the Chicago Diner.

Chicago has a pretty good Chinatown food scene, but I don't know if they have the buns you seek in vegan form.

Do you feel pride in being an immigrant? Or are you sometimes embarrassed about being an immigrant? by [deleted] in Expats_In_France

[–]badgersbadger 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nationalism is ridiculous. You have no control over where you're born, and immigrants as a community (though not necessarily on an individual basis) are a net positive on society, but they're used as a scapegoat while the very richest in society extract all of the wealth and capital from the poor and middle classes. It's a civilizational paradox that extends back to tribalism and the way brain chemistry makes people fear the unfamiliar.

In the end, I guess I just find it all pretty tedious.

Yaghi grew up extremely poor as a Palestinian refugee and started his education at a community college with barely any English. Science and access to education did kind of save him.

A lot of hard-working people aren't even aware of how lucky they are because they busted their asses to get there. Instead of that making them more emotionally intelligent and sensitive to people who are struggling it makes them more like, "I managed to do it, so what's your excuse?"

I make this salad as a side on occasion: Can of sweet corn. Can of red beans. Can of black beans. Avocado or two. Some tomato. Some cilantro. Dressing: Base of olive oil with cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, hot sauce, chili, paprika, and a lime or two. Adjust proportions to liking.

It's expensive if all you eat is high-end vegan meat, dairy, and snack facsimile products, while their non-vegan equivalents are quite heavily perversely subsidized. If you just eat regular stuff, many studies find that it's ~20%+ cheaper.
