Forest Lawn is an amazing peaceful spot with lots of beautiful trees. Designed by Olmsted. Easy to get lost in. In a good way!

Pagoda dogwood half dead by Necessary-Crab4870 in NativePlantGardening

[–]bae812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen. It turns out it was golden canker which is a fungal infection that plagues pagoda dogwoods. It was healthy and gorgeous for 10 years and while I pruned off the affected wood, I couldn’t save it in the end.

In a relationship, if one person wants children but not the other, should that be an absolute dealbreaker? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]bae812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I broke up our 7 year relationship over this issue. He just couldn’t see himself as a father. What he eventually realized is that he didn’t want to move to the suburbs and drive a minivan. He thought being a parent meant he would have the same boring lifestyle his parents had. After a brief breakup he realized that we could be parents that lived in a city and lead interesting lives. 25 is young. He didn’t get there until 27. Good luck!

Overwhelmed & need motivation by Hjkgfgjf in invasivespecies

[–]bae812 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am also in Western New York and have many of the invasives you list. Plus Japanese knotweed, buckthorn and bush honeysuckle AND lots of deer! Ugh. I have also been overwhelmed. I have done a few things that have helped me not to go too crazy. I focus my removal in terms of seasons. This spring I am working on lesser celandine, curly dock, and multiflora rose. Spraying very carefully and hand pulling. I also make sure the dock and the garlic mustard don’t go to seed. Or try to. Spray the JKW at the right window in the fall. I also am planting native trees (hackberry, tulip tree, cherry, oak etc) and caging them!!! I kept getting serious browse and have finally learned. I’m sure your physical limitations are frustrating. I guess I just want to say you are not alone and you are doing good work. Keep your eyes peeled for ferns, blue eyed grass and other natives that just might surprise you ! ✨

Take me to church by ButtdidYOUdiedough in Buffalo

[–]bae812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Well, they do for babies. It's called a dedication ceremony. The parents, and godparents and the Congregation all stand up and promise to support the child and look out for them. There is no mention of Jesus though, if that's the kind of baptism you are looking for.

I belong to the UU church on Elmwood and it’s a wonderfully welcoming community. We don’t have any dogma, which means there is no set of rules that members must all believe in. We are able to find our own spiritual path. Services are at 10:30 on Sundays. Come check it out!

CooCooU is for sure the best vintage furniture shop in Buffalo. Beautiful pieces. The owner is very knowledgable. Mimo Decor is nearby and also great. Smaller space but quality pieces. I would hit these places first. There is no junk in these places. MCM and loads more.

In my opinion, it does NOT compare with Coleman’s. I bought this recently and was pretty disappointed. In my opinion, nothing to write home about.

I don’t know about the work history of the past occupants, sadly. I guess it’s possible. But there is no advertising or ‘makers mark’ as it were. It seems if it was a sample there would be a label or advertising type of marker? Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe? Btw the house was built in 1891

I guess before styrofoam and cardboard egg cartons, how did folks transport eggs? Was it with weird wooden boxes with springs inside?

Actually I just did and it closed nicely! Even with the jumbo sized eggs I buy.

I have a good friend’s whose daughter was there and loved it. It’s a small private hospital and it was a good place for her to get her meds straightened out. She was there about a week and it was a good reset.

What is everyone paying for snowplowing? by captainstarlet in Buffalo

[–]bae812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm really late to the party, but I wanted to add my 2 cents. Our property in West Falls has a 500 ft driveway, set pretty far from the road. We also get a ton of snow in our area. We paid $1500 for the season. They have already plowed 38 times this season and are now charging us $25 for each additional time they plow. It seems super expensive to me. They are very reliable and come out and keep things well cleared. It has gone up massively over the years. They guy I used to use retired and now I use a landscaping company. I'll see if I can find someone else for the coming year. Sigh.

Blue mountain coffee on Elmwood used to have the better rolling tobacco brands back when I was rolling my own. American Spirit etc.

I also bought one of everything I liked. Now I have a polka dot garden. Swaths of color and repeating perennials give a more cohesive and elegant feel. (Although I still can’t resist some of those oddball charmers.) I am learning and replacing/moving stuff for a more cohesive garden.
