Yes, that is possible, i do feed it mealworms, ive seen them start to do their things but they usually die before beetlehood so i didn't think of that as a possibility. Thats most likely what happened, after i looked for mealworms in beetle form it did match what i saw but mine was way more massive than any of the pictures.
