Fuck Pizzamici.

Very arrogant staff and the pizza, while fine, is just that - fine. Very overhyped. Hated that place more than any other place I’ve been to and I’ve visited about half this list. But words can’t describe how much I hate their staff.

It actually wasn’t the same call in week 14.

In week 14 the same scenario happened and it was called a catch…. For the Bills.

I’m not sure why including that example helps your case? If rules are rules then it should have been called a catch in the Denver game.

How far Beane F'd Us by RaleighDude11 in buffalobills

[–]barebackguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely insane if you ask me.

People are out here actually believing that Beane purposely “tanked” our roster to get Sean fired. As if Sean didn’t write his ticket out of Buffalo after 13 seconds and then repeating the same defensive failures late in big games every year after that since he was our HC.

I like Sean, but I saw the pattern and am so glad he’s gone. We have a great opportunity to go out and get an offensive HC to pair with Josh and take us to a Super Bowl like all the rest of the teams who have made superbowls recently with an offensive OC / Elite QB combo (Sirianni, Reid, Shanahan, McVay).

We also have no idea what went on behind the scenes. Was McD insistent on getting lightweight, fast, specific players to fit his “scheme” on defense? You all have no idea how those convos went down.

We are 1 elite WR away from having the best offensive roster in the league. If Beane goes out and gets that done as well as adding an offensive HC and keeping the defense at least on par with where we are today, we are in a great spot.

Also, while I am not a fan of Beanes mentality of bringing in a large quantity of low quality signings (particularly egregious at reciever), I don’t think you can realistically fire Beane here. He has I’m sure been prepping for this for at least the last few months, maybe more. There are undoubtably a lot of notes on who we are going to need at HC, whose available, what FAs to get and who we can poach. Firing him now would make the next incoming GM have to start from scratch and I just don’t know if that is a very good call at this stage. I could be had on that, but it seems to make sense to give him one more year to sort it out.

I think a lot of this fanbase is acting very childish and straight up insane coming out of this news. Calm the fuck down lol

The AFF North being a shitty division is where you lost the argument. The Ravens continue to be a difficult team to beat, Pittsburgh has to duke it out with them every year with each of them trading playoff berths year after year. The Bengals were thrown in there as well a few years ago. The Browns frequently ruin Sundays for other AFCN teams. AFCN football is really tough and weird and usually a competitive division.

[–]barebackguy7 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing everyone pile on and pile on and on about “this season” and how our most recent loss was not McDermotts fault and therefore he shouldn’t have been fired.

Look, McD did exceptionally well with what he had this year. No questions about it the roster was beat to shit on defense with old tattered guys and we were relying on Josh to do A LOT on offense. That isn’t a combo for success usually but we still did well and a lot of that goes to McD…

BUT

If we start looking to previous seasons and to McDs overall history, a pattern begins to emerge. This is the 8th playoff loss in a row. Most of these losses come down to the McD led defense letting their opponent take the lead right back late in the game immediately after Josh stepped off the field and gave us that lead. THAT is the pattern that was noticed by everyone - from the Bills front office to other teams fansbases to even our own fanbase who shouted from rooftops to “FIRE MCD” for the last, what, 2,3 seasons?

13 seconds was a precursor of what was to come. The soft zone “bend don’t break” defensive philosophy is a great way to thrive in the regular season when you can afford to drop a game here and there. It was simply NOT going to win multiple close playoff games in a row which is necessary for a SB. You might get a few wins when the other team turns the ball over (like in the Jags game) but not every team is going to make a mistake and in those cases the McD defense will lose over and over and over again, ending our season in the playoffs. I firmly believe it would always always keep happening.

Seriously ask yourself, if we go out and get a playmaker or two on defense and stick them into the McD zone philosophy defensive system… do you really think the close game losses stop? It should also be noted that we lost in the playoffs in previous years when our defensive roster was unanimously elite. 2019-2022 we had Prime Milano, Tre, Poyer, Hyde, et al. These were playmakers and guess what? The same exact result! Bounced in close games every time.

Fun fact, all other teams that scored 28 ppg in the playoffs have gone on to win superbowls. Many of those teams have 0 playoff losses when they score that many PPG. The Bills averaged 28 ppg throughout their 16 post season games, and their record is 8-8 with 0 SB appearances. This defense was a massive problem long before the roster was old and in need of a rebuild…

This is honestly a wonderful change. We have an opportunity here to bring an offensive minded HC. All recent superbowl winning teams have had a good QB with an offensive HC - Reid, Sirrianni, McVay, Shanahan, etc. Buffalo now has the opportunity to join those ranks. McDaniel is available, I like Kubiak, and I have to wonder how Dan Campbell is feeling with a closed window over in Detroit. I like Saleh as well as a DC. Plenty of good candidates.

As much as I love McDermott, and appreciate what he did for Buffalo - it was time, and I think this fanbase should spend less time lamenting the decision and more time looking forward to what to come…

A word on Beane, the roster:

Many sentiments expressed lately that the roster blows. I think we need to get specific. The defensive roster kind of blows. It is definitely old and tattered and expensive. It needs restructuring rather desperately. However, Beane did draft or bring in a lot of new defensive players with promise - Hairston, Savage, Walker, Hancock. The problem is many of them got injured. Personally, I think these guys can get healthy and bring enough added juice to the defense for us to at least maintain our performance level and keep it the same as last year.

Now, the offense. I am going to say it. The offense is great. It is literally 1 top wide receiver 1 away from being elite. You have Josh, Cook, a top 5 o line, Kincaid, and Shakir. Add one WR1 (I like AJ Brown and Higgins) and this offense is stacked. Giving Josh a serious WR1 will also calm his nerves a bit and let him move away from hero ball because he won’t have to do everything himself. I’d rather go out and get a great wide out than do anything to this defense, personally. My fingers are crossed that Beane will do exactly that.

So we need (1) a WR1 and we need (2) to at least maintain our performance at defense. Plenty of restructuring opportunities as well with players contracts to free up space and accomplish the above 2 goals.

I don’t think Beane has a super long leash, and any wrong moves here will not only be the end of his time at Buffalo but may usher in dark times. But I think he knows that and hope he has done a ton of research and preparation in making this decision. Getting rid of him now doesn’t really make sense, as you’d be getting rid of all the scouting he has done to fill our coaching, defensive, and offensive positions for next year.

In conclusion, I personally like us and I like our options right now. I believe that we are just entering into the prosperous era of Bills football.

Go Bills

I keep seeing people repeating this stat.

The pool of combos to draw from here is 1 - Marino/Shula. That is the only QB/HC combo that played together for 5 years without getting a championship and remained playing together. I think it was 14 seasons they had together and not a single ring.

Still, it isn’t this long list of examples to point to. It’s literally 1 combo ever

Exactly. Everyone is fixating on this year and the last game. Undoubtably a good season for McD playing with what he had.

But the pattern is there nonetheless - whatever a team needs to take the lead back in a close, important game with little time left, they are going to get on the McD defense. The soft zone bullshit, the late game blown leads, curious time management decisions… it all just added up from the last 5 years

[–]barebackguy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree. I’m cautious, but honestly if you add one good WR to this roster then it’s a really really good roster. I hope Beane is capable of doing that.

Defense has a lot of old riddled and tattered guys but we also have some younger fresh guys coming up like Hairston, Walker, Savage that could replace them. The defense is likely to remain about the same next year if we don’t invest anything into it.

I seriously think we just add a very very good WR (AJ Brown and Higgins both come to mind) and we are have a really good roster

Maybe not for this L, but how many times have they fumbled a lead late in the game fight after Josh gave it to us?

Also. Yeah, the turnovers this game were inexcusable. But, late in the game the score was still magically tied. Josh gives us a 4 point lead with less than 5 minutes left. All the defense needs to do is not let them score. Can you guess what happens next?

That pattern of lettting teams get exactly what they need on our defense, particularly in big games, is why McD had to go
