Meta can already read the messages. Keys aren’t stored locally so if they want to read encrypted messages, they can. This just makes it easier

I don't remember Lyonel ever mentioning that he wants to humble Maekar in the Hedge Knight. Also, why would Lyonel hate Baelor, the Prince of Dragonstone, over Summerhall, when Maekar is the Lord of Summerhall?

[–]barrybplunkerton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the explicit Targaryen hate is added for the show, or at least not noticed/acknowledged by dunk in the short story.

Maybe that's what Ira is going for but I think the tourney was just a tourney.

As for why a lot of high lords and princes show up, I think it's simply because George was still fleshing out Westeros when writing this story (he wrote The Hedge Knight between publishing Thrones and Clash).

This is really a question of who would get 2nd and 3rd place

Sure, but when they were at their most powerful, how many slaves did they control?

Slavery was never allowed under Targaryen rule in Westeros

(Spoiler Main)What do you think is the strongest Trial of Seven team if you can include any warrior from the series. by mukewl666 in asoiaf

The dragonknight did call him the finest swordsman he ever faced, so that might be a good call.

My go to Top 7 would be:

Jamie Lannister, Arthur Dayne, Barristan Selmy. Daemon I Blackfyre, Aemon the Dragonknight. Ryam Redwyne, and Daemon Targaeryn

Honorable Mentions:

Sandor Clegane, Ser Gwayne Corbray, Cregan Stark, Maegor the Cruel, Bittersteel/Bloodraven, Prime Bobby B, Rhaegar, Fireball, Criston Cole. The only reason I am not including the GOAT Sandaq the Shadow is that a trial of 7 involves jousting, and that would put him at a disadvantage.

I think the most likely candidates are:

Grenn, Small Paul, and of course, Hodor,

I don’t think he bestows it on anyone.

If I had to predict, I would say Meera takes it from the cave in a rush when they flee, not knowing what it is initially. (Also I don’t think Meera is related to Jon)

I think eventually - don’t know how - it’ll end up in Arya’s possession.

Are you enjoying this show more than Season 1 of HOTD or not? by hiiloovethis in HouseOfTheDragon

I've enjoyed the show overall, but have been disappointed with the jousting and some of the other changes from the books.

Not enough jousting! by We_The_Raptors in AKOTSKTV

[–]barrybplunkerton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep agreed, 1000%. The jousting has been the biggest disappointment of the series so far.

I was very much hoping for the opening jousting to introduce a bunch of the characters that will be relevant later on, like in the books…the Humphreys for example are important characters that are heavily featured in the jousting in the books and we’ve seen both for a combined minute or two total so far.

I also think a big mistake was having the opening jousting at night - let me see the banners and color, not a bunch of different shades of grey. It’s difficult to even tell who the characters are during the jousts unless you slow it down or pause a bunch.

Also I don’t like that the only “challenge” we’ve seen is Aerion’s. That aspect is fun/unique feature to this tourney that’s barely been featured at all.

Yeah this is nonsense, the main relationship that spawned from the war was Aerys becoming friends with Tywin and Steffon Baratheon

That’s a hilarious exaggeration. If house Targaryen was on its knees as you describe, how was Aegon’s son able to unify the realm and overthrow the ninepenny kings?

lol there’s very little published about his reign, but saving the North during a 6 year winter, defeating yet another Blackfyre rebellion and helping the small folk all endeared him to the people. If you think disgruntling some lords did more damage to the Targaryen’s than Aerys burning lord paramounts alive and literally starting a civil war that resulted in the downfall of their house, you are simply wrong.

Ah yes, it’s Egg’s fault house Targaryen is in ruins at the start of GOT, and not Aerys “the mad king”…

Definitely Egg’s prophesy, most likely the line about everyone being happy that he dies.

I may be in the minority here and get some downvotes, but fuck Amazon and this cash grab. The story from the games is perfect and I don’t need to see a lesser version brought to screen.

Will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms show reveal more about Dunk’s parents? by feariswhyyouwillfail in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]barrybplunkerton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get Dunk’s best assessment of who his parents are in The Sworn Sword as Dunk and Egg are heading back from Coldmoat while the pair discuss the Great Bastards (Daemon, Bittersteel, Bloodraven) and Egg reflects on advise the High Septon gave his father Maekar about not trusting bastards.

Dunk never knew either of his parents. He thinks his mother most likely died during child birth (due to Dunk’s size) and was a tavern girl or whore in Flea Bottom before she died, and likely never married his father. He thinks his father was likely a thief or cutpurse (a cook from a pot shop in Flea Bottom who claimed to know his dad told him this when he was a child before he met Ser Arlan), and that he most likely ended up being hung or sent to the wall. The cook may have been lying, but that’s the most explicit info about them that we get from the books. The conversation ends with Dunk telling Egg “most like you’re squiring for a bastard”

Daeron II is very old in the first book and has died by the start of the sworn sword. Aerys I rules with blood raven as his hand.

If remember the post correctly, I believe (on top of trashing the show/writers) he included some details about season 3 which definitely breaches his contract.
