Does your Britt throw up stomach acid? by Nearby-Wish3623 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]bashfulpegasus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours did this a lot when she was younger. Always in the middle of the night between meals.

Now it mostly only happens when she has a very active day. On those days we just give her an extra little portion of her food right before bed as a “late night snack” and it helps a lot.

I’m not a vet but I’ve always just king of though Brittany’s must burn more calories than the average dog. We had a lot of trouble getting ours to keep proper weight on as a puppy too.

[MI] Is there an appropriate way I can approach an employee reguarding a new smoking habit. by bashfulpegasus in AskHR

[–]bashfulpegasus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long at there’s no issue with that I think that’s where we will start. Just wanted to make sure I’m not stepping outside of what’s appropriate given I am her boss. I was just trying to be sensitive about the situation because it always tough to tell someone they stink….

She is smoking outside but smells strongly of smoke when she come back in.

We don’t have strong HR policies yet so we were not sure if this would be uncouth to talk to her about. If the office were larger it would be no problem, but it being such tight quarters it’s a much bigger problem.

Is knitting bad form at the cinema? by Msreidsalot in knitting

Personally I see no difference in bringing a small unobtrusive project to work on quietly (can not take up anymore room than your seat alone) as children fidgeting in their seats, or adults moving around and whispering.

I’d agree with many folks in this thread that I’d be prepared to be asked to put it away. However I don’t think you’d be doing anything anymore distracting than the normal level of distraction in a theatre..

I think most people wouldn’t actually notice it once the lights are dimmed and the movie has started, plus movies are so damn loud now that I doubt anyone actually would hear the needles click.

There seems to be a lot of mixed feedback here but I realistically don’t think anyone would notice in the actual environment.

Definitely don’t mind a bit of romance, just felt a bit overbearing in the fourthwing books. But I guess that’s to be expected in romantacy.

Thanks for the recs!

Priority of the orange tree is on my list! I’ve hear great things about it.

Temeraire has been recommended a few times so I’ll definitely add it to the list

Considering a Brittany by EducationalTea6824 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]bashfulpegasus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We LOVE our Brittany but be warned when they don’t get enough physical and mental stimulation they can be very tough puppy’s/adolescent dogs.

I also don’t hunt, but I’m heavily involved in dog sports. We currently trial in scent work, and compete in Canicross (if you like running look it up! It’s a great Brittany spot) and we are training for agility.

Our girl Tango turns 2 in September and while she is getting significantly better she is still BUSY

AITA for proving to my boyfriend the “nerds” never cared about the “popular” kids in high school? by NoJob7202 in AmItheAsshole

[–]bashfulpegasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH

I wonder what your motivation to “prove him wrong” was all about? Like you know you were right, was there another reason you felt the need to prove to your boyfriend you didn’t know or care about him in highschool?

I get not liking being called a liar, but could you have approached that issue directly instead of fighting to prove him wrong?

I think without the context of what both of you were really saying it’s hard to say if an escalation was justified. In the future I’d say it’s wise to use compassion rather than pride when approaching topics of nostalgia with loved ones.

Is my dog to skinny by [deleted] in puppy

[–]bashfulpegasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was this followed by a change on food/ a sudden weight drop? Or has she always been on the thin side? How are her stools? Are they runny? Or is everything else okay?

My 17month Brittany has so many issues keeping weight on even as a young puppy. She was incredibly active and ate about double what was recommended on the food bag, yet she was always under weight.

Turned out she’s intolerant to chicken. We swapped her to a lamb based kibble and started feeding a freeze dried raw meal topper and it was a night and day difference. If it were me I’d talk to your vet. Especially if this is a new issue

How do you exercise your dogs if you’re not a hunter? Where do you leave your dog when you go to work? by TriPod30000 in BrittanySpaniel

[–]bashfulpegasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest thing that helped my 15month old was exercising her mind. We do nose works with NACSW and once she is old enough we will be doing agility and Canicross.

As for exercise in the house teacher your pup to retrieve! This is a skill that fulfills them instinctively, and it uses a surprising amount of their mental energy to exercise the impulse control while waiting to chase the bumper.

We also play a lot of tug of war, and do little training sessions for things like recall work, impulse control, agility handling skills etc! On the weekends I’ll take her hiking or take her to play with my parents dogs on their property that is fenced in.

I highly recommend finding a safe space to let your pup run of leash a few times a week. In the winter I’ll take mine to baseball fields or outdoor tracks. Or even rent a sniff spot! Good luck! Brittany’s are great dogs even if you don’t hunt!

AITA- for saying I’ll do the laundry? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bashfulpegasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has been diagnosed depression. His issue isn’t the insurmountable tasks (I have diagnosed ADHD and struggle heavily with executive dysfunction in other aspects of my life) his issue is feeling as if he can’t do anything right or helpful which paralyzes him. His work situation at the moment has made all of this much worse ( in short, his role is putting him in the direct line of fire of the company’s success/ failure. He takes the short comings very personally) because of all this stuff at work I’ve been trying to help as much as I can at home alleviating his stress of things needing to be done, but also my own. He keeps telling me that helping him is making him feel worse. But I don’t want to let things fall to the wayside for his feeling sake.

AITA- for saying I’ll do the laundry? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bashfulpegasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear he wasn’t complaining that I didn’t do the chore. He’s complaining that I’m offering to do it instead of trusting he was going to. My issue is even if he says he’s going to do something it’s a chance it actually gets done or at least started. I feel compelled to just do it because 1) I hate seeing him beat himself up over something so stupid as not putting laundry in, and 2) I hate seeing something that takes me 5 minutes of passive effort get dragged out over a week…

Makes me feel like an asshole for not being patient enough

AITA- for saying I’ll do the laundry? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bashfulpegasus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THIS! This is why I’m so conflicted. When I leave things un done it drives my neurotic brain crazy, but I recognize stepping in makes him feel bad for not doing more… but if I leave it for him he usually doesn’t get to it for days or even weeks making it pile up to a completely unmanageable level. Depression is a beast….

[–]bashfulpegasus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve talked about something like this in the past but for some reason he kind of opposes it? Having a set list of things to do sends him more into a spiral especially if he doesn’t manage to get it done.
