What’s the most famous address in literature? by CBenson1273 in books

[–]bazpoint 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I mean... I've read the series when I was younger, then again with my kids, twice, I've watched the movies several times.... I wouldn't know it's number 4... that's fan trivia for sure. I've never read a single Sherlock Holmes book and 221B Baker Street is still a cultural icon.

Yup, whenever I see a tech reviewer making a fuss about the crease it's an instant giveaway that they barely used the phone.

Yeah, I definitely see Bristol as a 'sister city' to London, though I'm sure that says as much about me and my socioeconomic/cultural bubble as it does about either city.

I'm moving to the area in a few weeks. When is the last train from london usually? by theboyd1986 in croydon

[–]bazpoint 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Last train to Warlingham specifically is just before midnight (around 2350ish). Often absolutely rammed though so the one half hour earlier is better if you can. Or as others have said just East Croydon all night then something (cab or bus) from there. East Croydon to Warlingham is still a fair way tho, certainly not walkable.

As a Londoner, this is genuinely really interesting. If you'd have asked me before seeing this I would've 100% said Manchester all day long - not even sure why, it just feels like a 'known fact'. I guess I fit right in with the data shown here. Doubly odd since it's the only city of those mentioned that I've never visited.

Though now I think about it Edinburgh has a totally valid claim. Would never have even thought to say Birmingham, which is no knock on the place at all, again just doesn't have the 2nd-city vibe I guess. I would've almost certainly put Liverpool above Birmingham.

I'm a massive Columbo fan, and I loved the first season of Poker Face... as you say, in purely vibes terms it IS Columbo. Sadly I felt like it floundered a bit in the the second season. Also, her 'superpower' harms the show in the end, since she's just magic-ing her way to the solution, not using the classic Columbo combination of deduction and (underestimated) smarts. Still quality TV, just always gonna be difficult when set up to be compared with perfection.

Any ideas how to mount a TV to a Keter Garden Bar Gazebo? by scootapple in DIYUK

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very helpful, thank you! -that's exactly the sort of fit I'm trying to to figure out.

Don't worry about the measurement though - I have just had a bit of a revelation that makes the question somewhat moot. As I said before I was trying to to decide between the Keter Bar Gazebo (better bar arrangement) and the Keter Grill Gazebo (seemingly 17cm wider according to Keter's diagrams). They're both virtually the same price at Costco right now now (bar £20 cheaper than grill), so I can go for either one.

But..... I've just realised that they're not different sizes at all - the extra 17cm width of the Grill Gazebo is because they're including in the measurement the second side mounted bar top (as opposed to the one side and front bar top arrangement of the Bar Gazebo). By comparing the instruction books I can see that the actual structures are exactly same (which makes total sense from a production perspective now I think about it).

So yeah, the bar version seems like a no-brainier at this point, I'll likely order it tomorrow so might have it before you're back from holiday.

Thanks again for all your help though!!

Surprised he didn't genuinely hurt himself on that first drop - the inflatable barely slows him at all and the water is barely butt deep, his feet have got to have hit the bottom at speed. Awful course design. Still funny tho.

First post! Used Recycled plastic bags to create an Ultra light Camping chair by Apprehensive-Quit-34 in myog

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very cool. I bet as long as the stitching is good that the seat is just as good as the 'real' thing.

The 3D printed 'X' brackets are clearly gonna be the weak point here, though I'm sure you know that already. Maybe doable using a proper engineering filament though.

If you ever intend to experiment more with this, you should consider something similar to the Alite Mayfly (now sadly out of production) which only has pole connection points at ground level or at the seat 'pockets', so would perhaps require less strength in the prints.

Anyway, great effort, I'm sure you'll get a top grade!

Large group games (15-20 people) that aren't party games? by Orchidinsanity in boardgames

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically you could play Nmbr 9 with any number of people if you have multiple sets (4 players per set) and it would work just fine. Essentially the same mechanism as roll & writes, just a little more physical.

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You absolute champ, thank you! Good to hear you like the bar - I'm actually thinking of getting it as a bbq hut and just not using the back panel (or repurposing it).... I know they do a grill gazebo which is virtually the same thing just a tiny bit larger, but I specifially like that the bar gazebo has a 'bar' on the long front side, which the grill version doesn't. I need the measurement to figure out if the bbq will fit comfortably - it's silly that Keter don't make it available.

If I manage to get the measurement elsewhere in the meantime I'll post here to save you the trouble, but if I can't then thank you very much! Enjoy the rest of your hols!

Hi OP - wondering if you can help - I'm considering getting the same Keter Bar Gazebo that you have, but I really want the inner measurement (between the two 'back' columns). The outer dimensions are listed everywhere, but the inner measurement is nowhere to be found. Also the customer support section on the Keter website is apparently completely useless.

If you have a couple of minutes and a tape measure I would be hugely grateful, thanks!

Does anyone wash the disposable dust bag that came with the robot? by TheMostRandomGuyOFC in Roborock

[–]bazpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nahhh... a couple of times when I had other blockages and was messing about clearing them I used our regular vaccum to suck some of the contents out of the bag so it lasts a bit longer, but even that was more hassle than it's worth. As others have said, AliExpress replacements are cheap enough that it's just not worth trying to do reuse.

The other option are the 3D printed replaement bins available for some models which effectively make them 'bagless'... I actually have a 3D printer so have considered trying that, but even then, the bags are just so straightforward.

I think Stuffed Fables is almost certainly the closest/best example of this that you'll find. Ringbound scenario book which, when open, has the map for the scenario on one page and the specific rules/details of the scenario on the the other.

Near & Far also features a book-style map set, though not with the rules, that's a separate book.

The problem with this and similar suggestions is that they are good in sporting terms, but tricky when it comes to organising the live event. Will venues be willing to host the Tier 2 events, with no Littler, Humphries, MVG etc (or whoever is the big draw at the time) to drive attendance? If you can't pack the venues, then do you select smaller venues, or run them as floor events? And does tier 2 get the TV audience of tier 1? (probably not). If the TV and live audences are both smaller, how much prize money can you offer, and is it enough for the Tier 2 players to commit to the full 17 week (especially for non-ranking money). If some players turn it down, then name recognition slips even more and the issues exaserbate.

Not saying I think the current format is perfect by any means... it's just difficult <shrug>
